4mm to 5mm shift cable ferrule adapter
So I thought I'd go all bling-bling on a build and went for gold cable housings. Then I found out that the shifter housings are not 4mm OD like I'm used to, but 5mm. Now I have this issue where the housing will not fit into this cable stop thingiemabob here:
The cable stop measures 4.3mm ID.
Does there exist some adapter that will allow me to use my 5mm shifter cable? I tried googling "4mm tapered ferrule", but no dice.
Thanks!

Isn't the 5 mm housing actually brake cable housing? That is the issue as I see it.
A 5 mm inside diameter to braze on cable stop. Hmmmm. Might have to make one
if you can't find one. What is the inside diameter of the cable stop bore?

are you sure it's not 4.5mm campy shift housing?
I have lots of step ferrules around and can check measurements if you tell me exactly what you need.

The outside of both brake and shift housings was 5mm. The inside of the "cable stop bore" is 4.3mm

Well, yeah. I was going to delete my post as I'm only used to 4 mm shifter housing. But there must be 5 mm ID ferrules available.
If not, I was thinking I could whip one of these up on the lathe in a jiffy.
What I meant was the inside diameter of the bore through the cable stop braze on, on the stay.

Sounds like you need a step-down ferrule
In a pinch you can modify a centerpull brake cable stop bolt by cutting down the threads to fit the braze-on depth and filing smooth the threads and the ridges on the stop end.

If you don't mind black, Jagwire "pop" brake cable ends are step down. I have to get home from work to measure them but I know for sure they fit the aero cable routing holes in the top tube of my frame. I bought a bunch off eBay and was going to use them wherever a standard cable end won't fit like brake cable adjusters, cable guides, etc.

This should work. Description: Campagnolo Stepped Gear Ferrule 4mm. It should take 4mm cable which is what the coiled wire gear cable is on old steel bikes. Or you can use modern SHIFT cable and housing which is 4mm. Brake cable housing is 5mm and probably won't fit. https://www.condorcycles.com/product...d-gear-ferrule These are extremely hard to find. Folks want $10+ each plus shipping on Ebay. This company's price as I write this, is $2.99 each and $5 US shipping. So buy some extras.
