It's Time! The Annual Mileage (and/or Pissing Contest) Thread

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

223.3 half metric centuries.

Or for those still using the old style of measurements that is 6934 miles.

Surprisingly I rode 1362.3 miles this year, lower than the last couple years but higher than I expected as I've had a exceptionally busy year at work and some personal issues that kept me off my bike most of the summer season.

Only 286 as of today (road miles). I don't count my trainer, BUT, I've only had my bike for 3 months. Next years goal is at least 1000 miles.

5315 miles and 443,677 ft of climbing.

Of course, I'm hoping to get some additional miles in before the end of the month..

Especially since I got new shoes and pedals for Xmas.. So SPD to Speedplay. So far, so good. I never thought stiffer soles would make much difference, but I think it just might.

My goal for the year was 6,000 miles and I think I would have gotten there had i not been hit by a car back in July. It took me several months to recover and destroyed my bike. Still, I'll end the year with 4,500 miles which isn't too bad considering what happened.

I'll hit 4,500- just down from last year, but don't tell the OP that 10% is on spin bike.

Worst year cycling since I started. I thought last year was bad, it was great compared to this year. 2016, 156 miles. Yeah. I used to do that in a weekend. But a new baby and tons of work done on the house, I'll take over lots of miles.

Ditto on the new baby, work stuff, house renos, etc. but in my case, I've also put on 40 pounds. When I took a 30 mile ride over the summer, it killed my knees! I used to ride 40+ miles without issue but the extra weight is killing my knees. I'm only 36 and it sucks. My New Years resolution is to lose the extra weight. Pretty original resolution, huh?

Anyway, between my 4 bikes, I did about 600 miles this year.

12,317 miles right now. But weather's nice, I'm off this week, and still riding.
Edit: Finished the year with 12,550 miles.

3209. I was shooting for 3k, so I'm happy. Not bad for a guy on his second real year of cycling with 5 kids under 9, one that spent a month playing softball all stars (TIME CONSUMING!!!) and sometimes working 60-70 hrs a week. I also ran 200 miles somewhere in between all that. My official goal for next year is the same, but I have this little voice in the back of my head telling me "I think you can do 4000".....

Shoulder reconstruction (thanks, Dirty Kanza) put me off the bike for 4 months. Then, as soon as I got back on the bike, knee surgery knocked me off for most of another month. I'm at 5,173 miles and I will get another 70 or so before the year is out. Hopefully, 2017 will be a healthy year.

Thanks! I don't think I'm going to make it. I have a nocturnal 3 week old baby so I'm running on fumes at the moment. I rode a lot during college, though, so it's not a new milestone. Should be a good goal for next year!

Edited to add: 9,944.2 miles this year. So close! Next year...

I only got 5000 this year, my worst in quite awhile. Became really sensitive to heat this summer and had to stop riding if it got above 90. That put a dent in it! On the other hand, I'm 68 and lot of folks my age can barely walk across the street. Can we grade on a curve? BTW, trainer miles don't count anymore than treadmill, elliptical or Zumba. JMO

I'd think that the absence of time constraint for folks who are retired is an obvious advantage, and would more than make up for the supposed 'age' handicap.
