Job offers !
After a crazy Christmas season and ownership issues I decided to put some feelers out. Well that didn't take long with-in a weeks time and two interviews in two days I have two job offers. I have until Monday afternoon to get back to both companies as to whether I accept there job offers. So it's off to my happy place to do some thinking as to what I want to do moving forward into 2021.

Both jobs are local and much closers to our new house once it's built. It would allow me to bike too and from work if I so choose.

Congratulations! Part time or full time jobs? I'm looking at retiring in Feb-March 2022, will probably take some time off, then try to get a part-time job. I won't be 65, but I should be able to swing it with the finances.

Full time I just like to work and see no need yet to go toward the part time route. But then again life changes and I could change my mind in a year or two.

Job offers? That's great but I am now at the stage where I have less than 2 years to go before I embark on my final job, riding a bike full time. Right now, it feels like I am spending more time talking to a Financial Advisor than riding my bike although what little money I have, I'd like it to last.
Yep, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting a lot larger and my official date is Dec 2022. That puts me beyond my full retirement age.
So, it is nice to know now that if my company downsizes I can just walk away and be happy that I will be able to ride every day. Enjoy your new job which ever one you take.

I was in a similar situation. My company decided to downsize again (it happened a LOT) and offered me a very nice opportunity to leave. Both my spouse and I were also assisted with a medical subsidy until we reached age 65 so that was a really nice bonus. I feel like I was extremely fortunate in that the timing was just perfect for us.

I'm 70 years old. I retired in May of last year. By July I was bored, so I decided to go into the real estate business. I took my licensing exams in September and passed both state and national on the first try, so I've started a new career at 70!

I gradually phased into my encore career in academia over a several-year span. At age 70 I don't need the money, but I greatly enjoy working with intelligent and motivated university colleagues and students.

No job offer yet, and I'm not eager to come out of retirement, but my license is still active, so I did put my name in with both the city and county health departments to help with vaccine administration when it becomes available.

Congratulations! It's good to have job offers, even when you don't want to leave your current gig. I left my old job for a new one almost exactly 4 years ago, and it was the best thing I ever did.

Good going!
Hoping something similar pops up for me soon. Been out of work since the start of lockdown and retirement age is like twenty years away. I’m not even actually hurting for money yet, just bored out of my skull.
If anyone’s got any ideas as far as gainful employment...

Sooo conflicted over retirement.
We can afford it now. But what would I do with myself ... especially in the middle of a pandemic? I've been working since I was 12 years old, even through two college degrees and law school. It's hard to imagine NOT working.
I also really enjoy working with the uber-intelligent people I work with and I learn something new virtually every day. But more and more I feel like a short timer. While I truly enjoy what I do, I despise the overhead stuff that goes along with it. I always have.
So for now, the plan is to work until I can do Medicare, and cut it down to 3 days a week and see what happens from there. Easier said than done, though. I have to get better at managing my time.

I retired 5 and a half years ago, went from being on call 24/7 and putting in 50 to 60 hours a week at work to what am I going to do now. I still work in my field but now part time, taking most of the summer and winter off. I became active with our local history museum and recently volunteered to be a member of our town finance board. Keeps me active, involved and I interact with some awesome people. Stress level is a fraction of when I worked full time and I have a lot more time to ride my bikes.

Then I have to talk clients into (1) keeping me but (2) on a reduced workload. That can be hard to manage. It may well be very up and down, which is OK, but that presents a problem with the administrative expenses.
Or maybe chuck it all, get off the self-employment wagon, and take a job as in house counsel for a few days a week. Maybe even do it for a start up and take compensation in terms of options ... I dunno.
Of course, there is a part of me that thinks as soon as I semi-retire, I'm gonna say "the hell with it" and give it up completely. I could be happy as a Walmart greeter or a ski host.

After taking time to go over all the pro's and con's with each position with my wife I decided to stay where I am. The owner and I met for just about a half day going over the issues we've been having. He finally admitted what I've know for a while now that he really doesn't want to own the business any more. I've watched his lack on interest in the business hurt us over the last year, and that's what pissed me off the most. I told the owner part of my job now is to get the business sold so he can do something else. I've spoken with our two largest customers already and both have interest in exploring an opportunity to purchase the company. So we'll see how thing progress over the next few months.

<!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}-->I've been trying to find any worthy job for a while. I do not understand how some websites that have job offers work. I applied to several companies. By the moment they got my application they had already hired a person. So, why did not those websites delete the companies' contacts together with offers? I know the only platform that works fine. I have found Naperville jobs there.

I got an email from a head hunter today, telling me that many folks in my profession are moving to Texas for the great opportunities.
I suspect the email is boiler plate and crafted before the big storm.
Also, I'm just not a Texas kind of guy...not even Austin.

I’m so bored, I’m actually willing to take a look at Texas. Or anywhere.
Been almost a year of this. Think I might be starting to crack.
