Happiness is...

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Last summer I was on an MUP and 2 e-bikes passed me, so I jumped on their wheel. They hit the throttle so I picked up my pace. We were doing 25mph and I hung on for 2 miles when they took a left and i was continuing forward. They were pissed that they couldn't drop me.

I guess they didn't realize that 2 big guys on large bikes create a nice draft

I don't care so much, it is more people on bikes. That is always the way to go. People who worry so much about bikes passing them really need something else in their lives. Unless of course you are actually in a real competition but a casual road ride is never a competition.

It is not a bad thing to step it up a little but worrying that someone is passing you is nothing to worry about. Bikes are fun people should ride them, if they ride them faster than you cool, if they are slower than you cool.

Commuted everyday (30km round trip) for a few years in an ebike, to my job running one of the largest bike shops in Auckland... got so much **** from “core” cyclists on that commute, some in good jest, some, pretty nasty for whatever reason. I was always keen to chat about it with them, kinda my job and all. Think I converted a few to at least acceptance of the idea, even if they would never try one.

the more people not driving cars, and spending money in the bike industry, the better I reckon

I'd say the ratio around here of "commuter" to "out to bash around like a dirt bike" is probably about 25% commuter 75% basher.

The routes the bashers and commuters take is usually a lot different than what I ride, so it doesn't bother me.

Now..........the gadgets that drive me nuts is seeing able bodied children being lazy and rolling around the neighborhood on electric scooters or those hover wheel things. Not setting up for a lifetime of health. Just as a parent........I have to shake my head.

Even truer happiness is finding a bike in rough shape but the seatpost still comes out without much fuss.

No big deal. Just overtake them again on the descent. Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes top out at 20 mph.
