Why would you purposely run your seatpost backwards? Also, since we are talking about those "drops" what is up with those?

Yeah the seatpost is completely accidental, thanks for letting me know. The drops are just kinda drops that let me get lower and go faster. They are about shoulder width wide and feel really good. They are called "drop ends" but would be way to wide if I had them at the end of the bars so I played around with them until I got something that worked while also keeping the original risers and brake levers functional. It does look weird though I admit.

they're so narrow. I can't imagine that's comfortable at all...or safe.
Just lose those drops and turn the seatpost around and you've got a perfectly fine bike. Ride, fix a few flats, and keep everything greased and tight and you'll have more biking experience than a lot of people who post pictures of their bike(s) on bf.

Attempting my first build at the ripe age of 49. Bike is a '77 Takara. HiTen/lugged 25" (6'6"/215). I'm about a week in...frame, stripped and primed. Parts being acquired; going low-budget just to get a feel for how the building game works.

I made some changes to my fixed gear bike since Tim gave me a few parts:
Shimano 105 brake calipers
Nitto UI-86 stem
Blackburn Carbon fiber frame pump
Also, it previously had a frame bag and rear brake caliper which were removed.

I'm not spending a ton of money--it's all eBay/Amazon "specials" or bike shop parts bin stuff. I am spending a fair bit of time on the prep and paint and am very pleased so far as to how it looks. I'm really using this as a learning project as I have never done much more than adjust brakes or chage tires.

I have a Takara hi-ten road bike frame from about the late '70s (much smaller than yours, though). It's been great! I've ridden it almost every day in 2018. I've gotten better use out of it than I'd ever expect from a $25 frame.

When I first got my Wabi, I was running clearance just like that. First ride: scratched the **** out of the paint on the back of the seattube because the tire was picking up little stones and scraping the frame. There's my word of warning.
I added a link to the chain, pulled the wheel further back in the dropouts, and it was fine. Still feel like a dummy, though.
