Does tubeless tape dry out?
Subject line says it all. Does tubeless rim tape dry out? I'm thinking of picking up some DT Swiss tubeless tape for the next time I swap out my tyres so I can replace the existing tape. But that might not be for three or four months. Or longer. Does tubeless tape dry out? Or should I just sit tight and purchase the tape when I need it, hoping it's in stock?

If it does dry out and you buy it now to use in a year or so, then it may also be dried out.

I've seen Scotch 8896 oft recommended as a TL tape; can't imagine that there'd be a worry about this sitting on a shelf for months or even a year or so.

No signs of drying out, but I expect it will eventually wear out and need replacement with tire changes.

Not clear on what you mean by that. Tape has always lasted multiple tire changes (3, 4, 5? ) for me. If it starts pulling up or getting creased along the edges when you remove a tire, it's time to replace.

That said, the DT Swiss tape is awesome and I wholeheartedly approve of buying some (but I wouldn't put it on until you need to).

Conventional Silicone sealant:
A) Does not stick to anything. So good luck using it to hold pressure
B) Off-gasses as it dries forming a corrosive that really likes to eat metal & electronics.
& C) Does not play well with latex. (This has implications beyond just bicycles.)

The new tyre is seated and with sealant, holding air just fine. But I think this is the last time I'll get a tyre change out of this tape.
