Hi there

Those look like non-aero hoods - if they are aero you may want to look at these on eBay .
PS_ I was searching for some Modolo 919's for a long time, but after losing all my eBay bids I finally gave up and bought a pair of cheap aero levers with black hoods from Niagra.
- I am glad I did.

So you think getting new brake levers would be preferable to finding new hoods? Interesting, hoods for these old things seem like a bit of a hassle to find.

Those ones you linked to don't look they'd fit my brake handles properly.

FWIW, I have Modolo Master Pro brakes on my Pinarello. The blue Ame hoods I have on them fit just fine.

I, too, have used the AME hoods and they are just fine, perhaps even better than the original Modolo units when one considers how they withstand the passing of time. The AME product seems to stand up way better and they are just as comfortable.

Another vote for the Am'e hoods, if you can find them. I've had this set on my commuter bike for over 20 years and they're still holding up fine:

I personally like the Modolo 920s (anatomic). I bought mine from Baron Corpuz a few years back when he was still
running Renaissance Cycles in Eindhoven. He runs Cafe de Velo now, I think his site is down for maintenance. He's
always a good source for stuff.

I have had better luck buying full lever sets, it's worked out cheaper than just the hoods. Last year I wanted some Campagnolo hoods, and ended up buying a set of Modolo levers with new hoods for $20 shipped.

+1 Are you after a restoration, or are you looking to make the bike functional? You can buy brand new aero levers for under $20, they work great. But they are not original in finish or form.

I have used the generic ones sold at Niagara on several bikes, they sell the for under $12 for a pair....

I've been looking for hoods for my Modolo non-aero levers also. Not looking for restoration, but want to use the non-aero levers.
I tried some Dia-compe that said they fit modolos.... but they are WAY too small, so don't even try these...

I've had better wear from Ame hoods, too. My guess is that they are molded from PVC or some other synthetic, and tho the feel is different from natural latex rubber, they just outlast rubber (by a lot).
I'm going to drop a line to the guy who molds the repro Campy world-logo hoods (as well as Universals, now too) and see it he'd consider adding some Modolo-type hoods to his offerings. I don't know what material he uses.

chevy42803, I hope you aren't as disappointed with those Cane Creek hoods as I was with the pair I bought; the material was hard and brittle and if you plan on using them on Modolo levers the fit is not going to be very good. In spite of lubing the levers and soaking the hoods in very hot water prior to installation, both of them split along the rider side of the hood during installation.

For the OP, the original Modolo hoods do show up on eBay as mentioned above, but the prices usually get run up way beyond my budget and I've picked up several sets of used/abused levers cheaply just to rob the hoods off them.

unworthy1: The repro world logo hoods are really nice, and if he could bring out 919's as well that would be amazing. He sort of does them as a hobby/favor/sideline, and doesn't make very much money relative to the amount of time it takes, so it seems kind of unlikely he would take on a third type.

I have a set of yellow ones. I plan on hanging on to them though. Got them on eBay a year and a half ago.

I contacted the guy (robbie) who makes the Campy repro and Universal repro hoods about considering adding Modolo (or Ame) repros to his repertoire, here's his answer:

but would have to have a large

So, if we have $1500 in pre-order interest, and a perfect set to make molds from, he'll do it.

I have a perfect set of 919 hoods to contribute if this ever comes to be, but I doubt there's going to be enough interest.

They are EXACTLY the same as the Dia-compes. The rubber is maybe a little thicker, or maybe just not as stretchy... but the sizing is the same. They aren't long enough to cover the plastic near the bars. I was REALLY hoping to get a set that I could wrap without going around the levers... I wanted to be able to wrap just the clamp, then install levers over the wrap.

Edit: a bit off topic but I am looking to get new brake pads too. Any idea on what would work well with my Modolo sidepull brakes?

pads? Koolstops, either Continentals or the larger curved ones if you don't mind "modern".
I don't care for those "plastic" levers, (are they "Kronos"?) but to each his own.
