Crosstop lever with quick release?

The description for these crosstop levers says they have a quick release https://www.modernbike.com/cane-cree...e-levers-black

Has anyone seen a crosstop lever with a quick release or is it a typo?

Neither the Cane Creek instruction sheet nor the ad copy from several other vendors mention a quick release, and I cannot see where there might be one, so I would say that it is a leftover from the SCR-5 and SCR-5C brake levers, which do have a QR. The one on the main levers should suffice.
They look like clones of the Tektro RL720/RL721 levers which are going for about half the price at some vendors.

Agreed that the image doesn't show any obvious QR. Nor am I aware of any that have offered this feature. If the primary lever or the caliper doesn't have a QR feature one can add a cable splitter to the rear, mid stream, to get a release, of sorts. Or just wind out the barrel adjusters during adjustment and use their winding in as the method of spreading the pads during wheel removal. Andy

Shimano has an inline quick release. I haven't used it, but it should work.

I haven't thought about those levers with a quick release option. I suppose many of them have a set screw adjustment, in theory, they could be designed to pop open further, but I'm doubtful that any do.

Emailing Cane Creek would be out of the question apparently.

Think about it a little. The CrossTop lever works by pushing the housing. The inner just passes through and is not affected by the CrossTop. If the regular lever has a QR it acts on the inner and that's all you need.

One could potentially design a stop that would otherwise allow the levers to open more than normal, and thus act like a quick release.

Yes, if a quick release is either at the primary brake levers, or at the calipers, then you're right, an additional quick release wouldn't be needed.

Those cross levers are frequently being used as only levers for some configurations, and thus the choice would be quick release at either calipers or at the levers.

Yeah, I use cross top levers as primary levers on a bike with bullhorns. With the single pivot brakes, I am left with no quick release on either end, so a little fiddling with the barrel adjuster is required.

That Shimano quick release might help. Or, just try to remember to install the wheel before inflating the tire.

It's not really a big deal to do it with the barrel adjuster. CR 18 rims with 27 x 1 1/4 tires so it doesn't need much adjustment to clear even with the tire inflated.

Some company’s can’t make up there mind about quick release or thru axles

and it could make a wheelset worthless if a hub breaks

Thanks for the replies.

My partner is really worried about being able to get the wheels out but wants to try out 34c tires. We have an old mavic road rim. I guess we should be running a wider rim anyway. But I'm thinking that inline quick release thing will do the trick.
