1978 Olmo Competition
Hi everyone,
Firstly - WHY am I posting this? I was just (tonight) gifted this bike from the original owner who bought it new. It’s been collecting dust, and he has asked that I donate to his charity of choice what I think the bike is worth (in its current state).
It’s a 1978 Olmo Competition with Modolo brakes, and Campagnolo Nuovo Record groupset. To my knowledge, the wheels are not the original ones that came with the bike, as those were tubulars, which he changed to tube rims. It’s got some paint damage on the rear, and typical age damage.
I don’t think I intend to paint it, but would be killer if I could find some parts (especially gold bar tape!) and give her new life. Will certainly stand in contrast to all my other very modern bikes (read: Canyon Aeroad)
(Also - is that correct I have to post 10 times before being able to post pictures?)
Thanks everyone!

It doesn't take long to get to ten posts. Just drop a line in a few threads here and there, and pictures away! Welcome aboard!

Nice Olmo with a ton of potential and some seriously bad homemade brake hoods. Value is tough. All spiffed up that’s probably a ~$450 bike as a local sale. As is with cobwebs and bandages, I’m thinking more like $275.

Great bike and welcome to the Olmo club. Once you get your bike fixed up, you should post pics here

I'd value the bike a bit higher, around $350 as it sit. That is a high end frame with good parts all the way around.

Thanks all, this is great. As for the brake hoods - it’s actually just hockey tape on top of the hoods because the rubber had degraded a bit - will take that off and see how they are.
Now to figure out where to source parts from...

I've got a pair of yellow A'ME brake hoods over in the For Sale Or Trade thread in Classic and Vintage that are designed to fit those brake levers. 20 bux shipped

Some problems and some downmarket parts. I see very fine metalwork in that frame. Olmo was mostly a factory bike, they jobbed out the topline. That one was jobbed out to someone good.
With all the problems still $300.

Hey all - I’ve got a couple of my parts now for this bike...including tires, bar tape. Now really just likely need brake pads and hoods. Wanted to confirm that if I’m looking to get actual Modolo hoods, the 919s (there are some on eBay - wish I could post the link. Sold by Nuovoholic) are what I would need? I realize that spending $60 on hoods is probably a bit much.
Thanks!
Thanks!

The frame alone...
...is worth $350-$425.
You just don’t see too many 76-81 Olmo’s pop up. Hope you are enjoying riding it. I have a 1980 or so.
