Cleaned out part of the (bike) shed. Tossed some old bits and intalled a new hook for all the wheels:

Oh and hacked off a stem in the freezing cold

Put a master cylinder in my plow truck at +9 F before the 12" snow we are supposed to get in the next 24 hr. Skied the 2 miles or so of trails I have in on the county land behind the house a couple laps. Going to bed early to get up at 3-4 AM before work to do snow removal before the HIGH of -12F forecast for Wednesday. I'm thinking I can bring the commuters in from the garage. Doesn't look like they are going anywhere soon.

I'm kind of the same crazy the whole year. So still buying and selling parts and frames (I'm seriously not lying about that, guys!!). Still building pretty things that will not see a dry road for weeks after they are built, but I don't care! Since this winter is a bit more normal for us, we actually have small spells of dry weather, so riding in January recreationally is a thing.

Perhaps it is crazy that I want to ride a vintage friction shift bike with standard reach single pivot brakes through a busy city over constantly bumpy roads in stop and go traffic. Plus steep hills everywhere. Not ideal, but if you're aboard a brilliant bike, it's still very much a net positive. Colder yet gorgeous day yesterday for a ride. It has been steadfastly overcast and about 40° all day today, which for you upper Midwest guys is at present very warm, but for "expectations of going about and doing things without having/wanting to layer up" crowd over here, it's chilly in a sort of inconvenient way. I still bike in it, of course.

My (chain) dancing partner yesterday. These early '80s 710s are top notch. Top. Notch.

I just keep on riding, but it's taken me 27 days to make 120 miles, usually 100 miles a week is my goal. Even in California winter can be brutal, didn't even make it to 80° today. Seriously, rain is predicted for Sunday's Pasadena vintage ride, bummer.

Sucks to lose a perfectly good 1982 Trek 610 (those are really nice) to tribute duty, especially a tourer/sport tourer instead of a more appropriately-geometry'd road/race bike, and the Velocals thing is also of concern because I've bought from them before and they continue to be a great resource. That build was very well (and not cheaply) done--so execution on the/a task is A+. Anyway, back to regular crazy winter doings.

@Wildwood, I'm eager to know how long you keep that derailleur on your bike. I couldn't keep mine.

Finished cleaning and setting up the shop. I start twirling wrenches tomorrow. First step: All the necessary maintenance on the current collection, and get the three bikes I'm taking to Westminster ready to sell.
