I lil bit over priced for old junk, 600 could get you way more even a caad8 in some areas , look through the recycle a bike in your area for a similar frame to build up .

Just saying a new Trek 1.1 (discontinued) would have been cheaper than $600. A new Trek FX7.3 on sale will be a bit more than $400 but will be a far, far better investment for someone "going back to cycling" than an old warhorse road racer upgraded to brifters. IMO. Trek Domane if you must have the drop-bars.

$400 is a little bit dear for that bike. Decent (period) spec, decent shape, but as @Leisesturm said, it's an old warhorse road racer. Old USA Cannondales are nice bikes, but their race bikes weren't known for being particularly forgiving, or even comfortable.

If my 're-entry' to cycling meant I was going to enter a Gran Fondo / Sportive in September, I'd be looking for a bike like that.

If i'm in search of a bike so i can start 'riding around town' again, then something like this Fuji Absolute would be a much more versatile, and budget-conscious decision.

not sure of that year but I had a 2002 cadd 5 full ultegra and for me was a great bike put well over 10.000 miles on it til I got hit from behind and it was totaled. I paid 500 for mine 2 years ago and for me was worth every penny. Although mine was in very good condition when bought was hardly used.as for ride quality I also have other bikes including a 2016 bmc granfondo di2 and found myself talking the cadd 5 out more the the bmc .cadd 5 was a very fast bike and if set up with good rims and 25mm tires ride is not harsh out all
