Northeast Racing

Yeah I think the weather alone at bear was worse but coupling the weather with the course at GMSR and it seemed worse. or maybe it's just the fact that it's august and i didn't expect to be racing in 45F rain...

Any one doing new haven?
I want to float an idea. Northeast BF meet and greet. Party at my place, hang by the lake? I'm in a mountain bike state park so we could ride in the woods and you could watch me fall over.

I might be interested, but i'm currently slow like molasses and haven't ridden my bike in ten days...

what day?
I'm so detached from the race scene nowadays and my work gig is a time consuming monster but... if I can make it I think a BF meet would be really cool.

no clue. we haven't gotten past mine and GC's mancrush over each other. So far it's a twosome. Totally negotiable, though I'm on vacation for much of October.

i'll be at new haven (see you there?) but don't think i could make a lake trip work. i'm pretty booked up the next few weekends and when not i really need to start focusing on school work.

Decided against New Haven. Drive looks dumb. I'll do App Gap in a couple of weeks and then call it quits for the year.

oh man NHGP lived up to the hype. what an incredible event and a great way to end the road season. the 3 races started off so unexpectedly hard. one dude rolled off the front early and held it the whole race, I knew he was strong but it was a very impressive ride. i tried to bridge a few times but nothing worked out. ended up leading my teammate out for 2nd. great night.

Branchbrook is canceled
We just got a phone call from the Essex County Parks Department. There are trees down in the park as well as flooding and they are cancelling the race tomorrow. So sleep in everyone, go for a training ride and hopefully we will have better luck and see you next Sunday (yes, Sunday!)

Looks like Cielo has a new RR and new format. RR Saturday then Crit/TT Sunday. Still won't be there but different is better. I hope the new RR course is hillier than the old "punchy but never get away from the big dudes" type of course. I miss going to these events this year but we're having a kid later this year, riding has taken a bit of a backseat.

No I. Not that I'm racing anyway, but I wasn't putting it on my calendar. I skipped it last year to do Greenfield, Grandview....something. What was that called?
Since promoters changed hands it's hard to tell what you're getting with Harlem. A few years back they put in a rec lane that narrows the roadway. The old promoter removed the barriers which gave you the whole roadway, albeit with a textured surface. New promoter didn't do that. Pavement is also sketchy sometimes, sometimes not. There was a vertical fissure after turn one which caused a colossal crash on like the first lap of the first race of the day two years ago. They don't call it the skinscraper for nothing.

Yeah I've heard all the stories. I probably wouldn't do it in the lower categories. But since it's the closest USA crits race I think it would be a "good" learning experience. Or i'll get shelled in 5 laps.

Please do tell what’s the difference between higher and lower categories. Pleas tell do you predict a race with a 10,000 purse and loads of people from out of the country is somehow going to be safer than the car 3 race? I might have to come watch.

while it may have been implied I never said I thought the p12 would be safer. it's more related to the fact that driving to NYC for a cat 3 race on a non technical course falls on the wrong side of the "worth it" spectrum for me whereas having the opportunity to gain experience in a national level crit falls on the right side of the spectrum for me. bike racing is dangerous, that's something we all accept. let me know if you come to watch, i'll say hi.

Gotcha.
Not it sure I’d categorize it as non technical. Given the length it’s unique.
Nah. I’ll be doing dad things. I hate going in to that race. Parking is a nightmare.

ugh yeah don't remind me. ideally trying to find a place to stay close-ish with parking then just ride/train in.
