Wrapped up the new aero bars today, went for a spin. Heard a squeak-squeak I thought was the newly cleaned pulleys, so went back home after a few mins and lubed 'em. Headed back out, more noise. Maybe the new chain? Went back home after a few miles, lubed it.

Headed back out... still squeaking! Argh. Went back home for a 3rd time, swapped out rear wheel (PT hub's bearings are shot), noise gone. An hour of wasted time.

Rode 20' to the LBS holding the 404 w/ bad PT hub to get it serviced, then finally rode. New Zipp aero bars feel good, fit is different though (not as deep as the rotundos). Did a decent 20' effort, spun around.

To top everything off my Garmin wouldn't upload the ride afterwards, data from today lost (must be something about switching PTs mid-ride?) Really wanted to see the 20' # but oh well, life goes on and I've got new aero bars!

Finally starting to get excited for racing again, even thinking about maybe pondering a vague plan. So far the plan has been to ride when I can and do z3 to z5 depending on how I feel and whether hills are involved.

Short rides the past 3 days. I'm really noticing how much of a difference fatigue makes over the past few months - for some reason I never noticed it too much in the past.

Sunday was long and hard. No jokes.
Tuesday felt really slow, hard to push upper tempo up a usually 8 minute climb. 60 TSS
Wednesday did the headlands loop and managed to eek out 15 minutes of threshold and a good bit of tempo. 125 TSS
Tonight I did a quick lap around the city and finally felt pretty recovered. Noticed I was near KOM time on the first not very well known 5 minute climb, but ended up 1 second short due to about 12 groups of tourists blocking the path. But got in some solid VO2 and tempo for 100 TSS in 75 minutes

I've been struggling to get out for very long on weekdays since moving here, Idk why. But I think short rides for 3 days should be fine, thats about 300 TSS on weekdays while not building too much fatigue, then another 400 or 450 on weekends.

May put in a rest week after the holiday if I put in a big enough weekend to justify it.

20' test today - a measly 282w!

Partially a bad test road, partially I'm bad at testing, but mostly I'm just plain weak. I've done better before, but damn.

Good thing the racing I do is about a lot more than the amount of power you can put out for 20', or I'd take up a new sport.

Pretty sure I did over 300 when you beat me up Kings the other week and I don't think I'm that much heavier than you

I'd be so happy with a 282W 20' test right now...
That'd put me around 3.8W/Kg.

I'm also terrible at testing. My group ride and race efforts are way better than I can do on my own in 'test' mode.

I was at 289w for those 26 mins, at about 71.3 kg.

How much do you weigh?

This is one reason I love blood lactate testing...it's only 5min intervals, and usually only one above threshold.

Another 4hrs, 126km today. Felt like garbage for the first 90min of the group ride, off of very little sleep and lots of miles. Got stronger as the day went on and finished feeling great. Another 3hrs tomorrow.

New Years ride was ok. We hit a couple sections along the levee with gusto and dropped like half the field. Oops. Was pretty mellow until we got over to English Colony. Attacks split things again into 3 or 4 groups. Good fun all around. 240 TSS.

There is another one tomorrow. Same route. Folsom at 9, I think.

Yeah, I am thinking of doing the shorter, mellower ride down to Clarksburg. I can take my son on that one.

Smart ... some of the sections of road past the river ride turn around are horrible (I've never done that ride and was surprised) lots of flats.

Mine was in that territory about a month ago as a result of four 300+ TSS rides in a three week period in addition to my normal training. I didn't feel too bad, probably because I rarely go that deep. Then my coach switched me to more intensity and less time, plus I was off the bike for a week. I'm finally back in negative TSS territory. I felt like a piker with all the positive TSS time.

I tend to agree, -50 in base feels way less bad than say, -15 in build. I've felt worse with positive tsb in the racing season, honestly. I am a predominantly slow twitch unit though, so this makes sense.
