Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Got it.

So are you just thinking about venting for the moisture regulation, rather than temp regulation? My Rapha has different fabric, front and back, and supposedly helps to keep you from self-basting in an oven bag.

Kind of both I guess. Today I was fine, upper body temperature wise. I didn’t even know I was drenched until I was done. But I would like the option to have some airflow if I were to get hot. My wind breaker has the pit vents. So if I start to get warm I open those first. If I’m still hot then I start thinking about maybe removing something. Like arm warmers. or keep the arm warmers and remove the jacket itself.

Oh I know. It’s just surreal to think about.

Vaguely on that topic, there’s an actual Honda CVCC in the neighborhood. It’s even in pretty good shape other than the muffler not being attached.

A lot of them are making road bike looking e-bikes now. You can also get a "Copenhagen Wheel" or some such thing and stick it on any bike. We had a guy fly past us on Tuesday and at first glance it seemed to be just an old road bike but I could see the huge diameter hub in the back which is a motor.

Sounds nice. We had four months last winter below 50F here in the quasi-north.

Some segment names I've seen could be considered mildly to quite offensive to some groups. I imagine some ride comments get that way too, but I haven't seen much personally.

Tomorrow marks the beginning of a new mandate from the governor requiring mask usage at all times (except when eating or drinking) when in common work areas, which includes my desk out in a high-ceiling shop environment.

Trying not to kvetch too much since I get why it's happening, and a lot of other people have already been doing it for months, but man it's going to be obnoxious.

Yup. But this is what happens when the COVID hotspot map of the US is just a map of the US.

The Cov seems to be on a serious roll. In the last 2 days, I've learned of three people who are family or close friends in this area who are home sicker than a hungover sailor with it. Those are just the ones I've heard of as we have been as close to hibernation as possible (but we're still riding, just not socializing much).

Man, some poor Schmoe on Craigslist is trying to sell a unfortunate looking (the 650c wheels leave a big, unsightly gap between the ST and wheel) 48cm Cervelo RS for $1700. The thing's gotta be 10 or 12 years old and has the Ultegra with side-exit cables to match. Eesh.

Pretty sharp looking, but I just don't get it. Seems to defeat the purpose of being on a bike.

I can understand the e-bikes for the casual rider, that bike is not designed for a casual rider.

Trying to capitalize on the COVID bike boom, maybe? I don't exactly have my finger on the bike market pulse but I think it's a little late for that.

You looking for N+1? There's an insanely sweet deal local to you on the for sale subforum. Don't you ride around a 56cm?

No pocket. Jacket is too warm over about 45º F.

Shouldn't one always been looking for an N+1?

I've been doing some long-delayed unloading of some stuff, so I'll pop in to the usual categories and take a peek for anything interesting.

If I were to buy another bike right now, it'd be something with at least 3" wide tires, ideally 4"+

I have been wearing a mask 100% of the time I'm in the bike shop (20-30 hours/wk) since March. With a good quality mask, it's no big deal.
