Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The veggie dinner was very good. Least favorite was the tofu turkey, but it was still pretty good.

In these unusual times, there's a bit of comfort when things stick to the script. Well, I made sure to keep things awkward at the holiday dinner, even without extended family around. There was yelling. There was swearing in front of small children. There was blood.

My wife's COVID hobby has been a renewed interest in décor. Knick-knacks Accent pieces, pictures, furniture - these kinds of things have been showing up on a weekly basis. One of the recent additions was a framed painting that she put on top of a long sidetable, one that's regularly used serving food, just propped against the back wall. I was carving the turkey in front of that painting when the painting pitched and fell forward.

I've always had quick hands and I've always instinctively caught falling objects - I've impressed the hell out of people catching beer bottles knocked off of tables, etc. I caught the painting before it fell in to the turkey, no problem. The problem was that the knife came out of my hand in the process. Now, did I mention that I have quick hands and that I've always instinctively caught falling objects? Yeah - I caught the knife. Yeah, partially by the blade, hence the yelling, swearing, and the blood.

I put a goodly slice in the tip of my ring finger, bleeding on the turkey breast that I was carving. Fortunately (?), I was using a damn sharp knife, and it seems to have closed up pretty cleanly after cinching it with some bandages.

Good times.

Not in this thread, but there's a guy that won't stop talking about his souped-up Beetle - is that close enough?

Actually, now that I think about it, there's also a lawyer from FL that's a Porsche guy. I can't think of his screen name at the moment, though.

2009-2011 997.2s are a steal right now.

I’ve toyed with the idea of picking up a 914, but the prices have shot way up for good cars. Cheap ones have too much rust.

I wreck Porsche folks day.

When they have tuner tampered software, I make them put it back to stock. That generally includes putting cats back on.

And stuff.

That was a good read. Seriously well done.

I'm glad you and the turkey are OK. I'll reserve judgement on the pesky artwork.
