I would be constantly on the lookout for an '80s Serotta frame, except that I've never seen one with clearance for anything more than about a 28 mm rear tire. I do own one Club Special frame; it's beautifully constructed, though not particularly lightweight -- about like a PX-10 in the same (pretty tall) frame size. I think the story is that, on larger frames, they mixed Columbus SLP and SL.

Serotta Colorado 2

I have owned my Colorado 2 since 1992 and it was my primary bike for many years. It is my favorite riding steel bike and I have a bunch of nice ones. It has an amazingly smooth ride even with narrow clinchers and deep section rims. I have never tried it with tubulars wheels. I need to. Yet as smooth as the ride is the BB is stiff and it climbs really well. Great bike.

I own this Colorado II along with quite a few Italian bikes. Nice bike but I am not sure I would choose this over any of them.

a full bike like the op's...much less with vintage dura-ace? the serotta frames (non-ti or personalized/specialized) in decent condition are worth at least $400.

Since this has turned into a bit of a "show us your Serotta" thread, here's mine.



I seem to have misjudged the proportion of Serotta-lovers to the unimpressed. I'm sure I've seen people with a sort of "Meh" attitude toward them, and I thought I saw that on this forum. I think they're pretty cool, but I'm still trying to find the right combination of components to really bond with mine. I've recently swapped in a different stem to improve the fit, upgraded to 700x25 tires (the widest that will fit), and 10-speed indexed Campy shifters. I need to ride it more like this to see how it works.

What are the lettered designation indicate? There are fair number of frames on the bay and it is difficult to know which Colorado XX is what.

I've only owned my Serotta Legend Ti for a short time, But I am very pleased with it, It's difficult to tell exactly when some were built, But I'm guessing mine is an early to mid 2000's

It's a 1991 Serotta NHX with Columbus SLX tubing (confirmed) and the left side chainstay has the "S" curve. Right side CS is straight.

Serial 912XX.

I've always looked at Serottas favorably, although I've never ridden one. But didn't his design studio shut down? Links to it from the blog page up above don't work.

Paint is fully dry and ready to assemble. This was my first time trying the "snakeskin" accent, so I just did it very subtle. I had to correct a headbadge decal mistake, but other than that, the job went smoothly. This is done with automotive grade paint, so it is going to be very durable. This was my first time using the ultra-thin waterslide decals (Velocals) and I had some issues due to the learning curve.

I photographed my mistake, and the fixing process if anybody is interested.

Epoxy 2 part primer. "Psycho Green" base coat. Automotive 2 part clear.

That is one heckuva paint job. I saw this photo in a Google search and now I see it here. I thought that was the one tall order if it came that way to you.

I remember someone noting in the forums that Serrotas were pretty much bikes owned mostly by rich dentists or doctors.
Don't know why some might think such, but they are high quality bikes from what I had seen.
I remember thinking back in the 80's that Kestrel and Klein bikes were rich folks bikes that almost nobody can afford as I did notice outs8de of teams racing such bikes, those bikes were owned mostly by the very well to do, back then. But that was mostly the impression those bikes left with a poor college student that was just happy to even be able to buy a Peugeot.

I always thought they were nice racing bikes. We had to be told it was pronounced "Sir-rah-tah," and not "Sir-roh-tah."

I almost bought one but because of import and shipping charges didn't pull the trigger at the time. They are very well made bikes and every bit as good as any bikes coming from italian prestigious frame builders or bike manufacturers
