Am I the only one that thinks it is incredibly bizarre and unusual to force an employee to walk for three days straight?

Good cause or not....your manager does not have the right to do this to you.

There's force and there's force. I agree his boss doesn't have the right to force him. He doesn't have the obligation to keep the OP on the payroll either.

I tend to work through office parties. I'm sure if I attended them my career path would have been smoother. One makes choices and lives with them.

Will your boss cover the confundraising commitment? That's usually harder than the event for most walks and rides?

NomarsGirl, this thread is 10 years old. SF has likely finished the walk by now.

I have done the Susan G Komen 3-day. It was excruciatingly hard. OMG walking is so much harder than riding a bike. At least for me. Of course I trained very little and I did it in 2008.

Raising money is issue...are they fully funding your minimum to raise? When is event and where?

If you'd rather do bike related breast cancer fundraising...there is this ride: https://www.ysctourdepink.org/ on west coast Oct 23-25, 2020

I have an acquaintance that does it. I haven't because have my fundraising plate full with AIDS/Lifecycle.

Funny story from my 2008 3-Day. I had tent to myself....day 2...I heard everyone getting up but was still really tired...and I fell back asleep. I woke up a few hours later hearing someone calling out asking if anyone was still in camp. Oops! They put me on the bus to the lunch stop since I was way late. Since camp was in same location both night 1 and 2...there wasn't a pressing NEED to get up and pack my tent and bag to get onto gear truck like with ALC.

Just document this incident and save it for a rainy day, because your employer, in forcing you to volunteer your time may have violated federal labor laws.

Tell the boss that you forgot that you had already put your name forward to volunteer to help out at the start/finish area. It takes many people to get these events to run, and not just participants. In fact, the participants are probably around half the people involved in events I have done in the past.

I hope so, but SF never posted the rest of the story.

After become heavily invested in this story 5 minutes ago, I need to know how it all played out. I need closure!
