Hey folks. It's been a while since I posted here, but Target has clearance-priced their Kent Fixie at about $35. I picked one up last night just because it's too good of a deal to pass.

Went to my local target today, they had two of these, marked down to $60. It's branded as a "Magna", no signs of Kent anything. Maybe the brands are regional?

I passed, but I might get a twinge once I get paid on monday. Can't imagine they're hustling out of there.







Despite the 28" branding, the tires are in fact 700c (622)

You might have to look on the shipping box, I've seen where that's the only indication. There might be a sticker on the seat tube just above the bottom bracket housing. Kent imports a bunch of different branded bikes........none of which that I have found are anywhere higher than bottom end, lower tier...etc.

I buy "five for $75", "three for $40" and the like off of CL then sell them for $35 each. Kent is more often than not the importer, from what I can find. (Although I don't really look too hard or care too much!!)

Sounds like fun but how does one justify buying one of these exactly? Assuming you already have a bike...

Wouldn't mind picking one up given the cost but what to do with it...? Decoration?

Never turn a wrench on it (other than the first tune up to make sure you won't die immediately), then stop locking it up.

I mentioned to my ebike friend that he might want to think about these as base bikes for a budget (front hub motor) conversion. We'll see though.

Those brake calipers are plain sad. I had some on a budget road bike and they MIGHT stop you if its dry and you aren't going overly fast. Otherwise they need to be replaced, which is probably going to cost more than the bike is worth anyway. I'd bet the hubs and bottom bracket are also as cheap as possible. I'd pass and just get a better bike second hand.

I stepped a bit too hard on the pedals on mine and the rear cog moved. I'm going to say that's not supposed to happen, right?

I saw one of those WalMart ss/fg bikes outside a dorm at a college, not locked up. It was still there a couple hours later when I walked by...

Right now, I'm kinda broke, so if something catastrophic happened to all my other bikes, a whole bike for the cost of one component or even a decent tire might be tempting.

Also, not a bike I'd be scared to lock up anywhere with the flimsiest of locks, nor care about scratches, dents, dings, etc.

As good as anything else you're going to find for $35-60 -- even on CL, a crappy, used dept. store bike will be advertised for this much or more.

Does anyone know the gear ratio for it? I was thinking slap a big cog on it and have it as a dirt cheap polo bike just to experiment with. Gotta talk to my buddy who works at Target to see if this is going on locally.
