New bike day - Trek Domane AL 2 Disc

Hi all, I bought a new bike and wanted to share. This is a Trek Domane Al 2 Disc in Mulsanne Blue & Black.

New, like from a bike shop new. I've only ever had bought used or got an old bike from a relative, so this is a big deal for me.

Time to let go of my 80s sports-tourer and embrace things like brakes that stop the bike, gears that shift without taking hands off the handlebars, and making do with frames that are either too small or too big.

I'll get around to tweaking. I just wanted to share a photo before I install mudguards, lights, bags etc.

Looking forward to having a good 2021.

That blue is very classy. A real bottom bracket, flat mount discs, 12mm thru axles! Good choice, congrats!

Nice, I've been riding a Domane since 2017, still loving it. I still call it "the new bike" or sometimes "the midlife crisis bike" The last bike I bought before that was back in 1997 or so...

Hi, i saw someone posted a bike for sale using the same exact pic as yours in Madison, Wi. wondering if the pic of the bike you put here is stock pic or actually your own ? if its your own, are you actually selling the bike ? trying to see if this guy is legit .

Doesn't look like a stock pic to me. Proceed with caution.

Hello,

I am not selling my bike. I don't live in Madison. My neighhbors are all cool. That is my photo, not a stock photo.

Also I don't have a Facebook acccount.

So, any ad you see is a scam.

Thanks.

Somehow i am not able to post link caused i am new, but if you can find the ad in facebook market place you might want to comment on it he stole your bike identity !! lol

Man, you are going to have fun and enjoy riding that. Kudos to you for treating yourself. IME, it is great and exciting getting on a brand new bike, but it takes a while to get the set up just right, get used to, and appreciate, all the new components and feel of the bike. Then a ride happens when you don't pay that much attention to the shifting, handling, etc., and it strikes you what a nice ride you are on, you feel like the bike was made for you, and you are happy, happy, happy. What a great feeling, euphoric! Ride it like you own it.

I’m considering getting a 2022 Trek Domane AL series bike. I test rode a Domane AL 2 Disk and was very pleased. While I was looking over the specs I see that the Domane AL 5 Disk is a 2x11 group set with Shimano 105 components and hydraulic disk breaks. I love the hydros on my 2022 Verve 2 Disk, and can feel the difference in braking power between the two.

So would you guys step up to the Domane AL 5 for the wider gear range and the Shimano 105 parts, or the Delmore 4 for the Taigra components and loose 1 gear? Or lastly just go with what the LBS has in stock. I love the color (black with gold lettering), love the fit, and only thing I don’t love is the mechanical disk brakes and possibly the gearing, but I didn’t have a chance to take it for as far of a ride as I would really like to test out the gear range.

Recognizing the beginning of this thread is old, I hope the OP has been enjoying the bike this year.

AL4 vs AL5? Personally I'd likely just go with whichever was available in a color I liked.

105 vs Tiagra... Without going to Google or searching the forum, would you be able to tell someone how the differ what real world impact that would have on your cycling? If not, then I'd say it likely won't matter for you. Yes, the 11-32 vs 11-34 cassette gives you an additional gear at the very bottom end, but will that matter in your riding? Do you have really steep climbs?

You mentioned mechanical disk brakes yet both AL4 and AL5 are hydraulic so perhaps I'm a little confused. I'd definitely choose hydraulic vs mechanical, that doesn't seem to be a difference between the AL4 & AL5 models. Perhaps you're pondering the sitting-in-stock-ready-to-buy-AL2disk? I'd check with your LBS (and others nearby) as to when they'd expect an AL4 or AL5 in your size/color-choice and make you decision based on that.

I just looked up the AL4. $1730 plus a couple a hundred or two in tax for a freaking Tiagra bike. My God.
