Not the Slowest

Okay this has been discussed but wanted a confirmation on my thoughts.

I have a 10 Campy set-up and am using Shimano 10 speed cassettes and it works pretty well but not always perfect.
The reason for this is pretty simple in that I own alot of wheels and all are Shimano 10 speed so upgrading to
an 11 speed drive will be too costly for me when I factor in my wheel sets.

So I had been using a Wheel Manufacturing cassette which fixes the issue so I can still use a 10 speed Shimano cassette. These are way hard to find in 10 speed and Wheels Mfg no longer make them. Ambrosio makes some but they are also impossible to find.

So I had in my tool box a JTEK ShiftMate for this match up thought to have the LBS pop that on.
I have heard good things on the result.
Any thoughts or something I'm missing here?

I've used (didn't ride today so no current tense but have 5 Shiftmates in my stable) and installed a number of Shiftmates over the years. For the vast majority of riders they work well. Some riders seem to have a hard time with the small extra set up time and methods or have problems with shifting consistency over the miles.


I suggest them when needed but qualify this a bit, WRT the rider... Andy

I've done pretty well with tweaking my ultegra cassette but getting a bit of a hassle at times.
I have heard that the Jteks are a good option but also need tweaking from time to time.
Obviously if wheel were not an issue I would just upgrade.

It might be worth mentioning that the new 11 speed Shimano 11-34 cassette fits their 10 speed freehubs. If that range is OK you could go to 11 speed Campy or Shimano and keep your wheels.

J-teks set up properly, and it isn't hard to do, work wonderfully and do hold their adjustment reliably. The are a bit more "fiddly" to install initially than a straightforward rear derailleur but it isn't that tricky.

Also, Ambrosio makes 10 speed cassettes that have a Shimano spline pattern and Campy spacing. Look on ebay.

The JTEK will be installed by an LBS, I have the installation sheet.
As far as the Ambrosio conversion cassette they are impossible to find also now.
Tried ebay for that and the manufacturer, my guess is there is just
not a large enough market as it stands today.

Just make sure you've got the correct ShiftMate model. The compatibility chart is linked below. If you've got a Campagnolo 10-speed shifter and derailleur paired with a Shimano 10-speed cassette, you want ShiftMate model #1.

Also, be aware the double pulleys on Shiftmates can be installed in two different orientations and only one works for a given configuration so follow the specified directions for that too.
