Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I forgot my breakfast and lunch at home today.

Trying to look on the bright side and tell myself that it just means I don't have to pack one tonight.

And to make up for it I'll go stimulate the local economy come noon.

Stinks. I forgot my lunch yesterday. Couldn't motivate to ride back to get it, but too worried to go out and get some.

If she shows some maturity she possibly could transfer there after 1 or 2 years closer to home.

NYU is possible, but TBH the cost of NYU (after the modest scholarship they gave her) will cost about 6x the cost of Temple (which has offered her free tuition for 4 years, we just pay expenses).

We are going to have a big fight on our hands, and I don't look forward to it. There will be more drama to come.
One would hope. Film major and all....

I did say "some". A service writer at a new car dealership is in a position of trust. Some of them care about their customers and hold themselves to a certain standard. Others are pure evil.

I went to college after I was married, so it needed to be in driving distance of our abode. Fortunately, we lived in the Philadelphia metro area. Lots of options.

Thanks, yes, got the email yesterday. Glad they didn’t put the decision off longer. I’m leaning towards deferring to next year; part of the reason I chose it was that this tends to be when I’m fittest. And I have little faith that things will be fine by August.

I do appreciate the heads up!

I think it's likely things will resume by August. We should be heading down the curve by May + summer heat.

Huh, August 23 could be a bit toasty for a strenuous event.

We laugh at heat.

I hope you’re right. However, we are deep into hic sunt dracones territory. At least I have a week to decide.

Indeed. The first place I head is the Sportsman area, just because that's where the personality is. The flash may be in the Pro's, but the racers are at the end of the track. Last year, I wore my Garmin watch, and I walked 14 miles on Friday, and only 7 on Sunday. No wonder I suck at the Mt Evans race on Saturday.

If a tech loses the trust of his adviser, he's screwed. That goes both ways, and the customer suffers either way.

Well it's viewed as pretty hot here (there aren't many big runs, bicycle centuries in the region in July or August). I'm guessing they chose then rather than September is because they don't want to conflict with college football, because that's how we roll here.

I can also understand the desire to have a little more distance and (at least perceived) independence from family.

If you think that these maybe be significant factors, I'd explore ways of addressing them, appealing to her emotionally. Maybe find out what notable film makers went through Temple and/or Philly in general (I don't think that a Rocky marathon is going to do it, though) and explore their work? And then maybe plant seeds with regards to the autonomy she'd have, even though she wouldn't be that far from home? (Would she be living on campus?)
Good idea but she is a SNOB and thinks she is "better" than Temple. She applied to U Penn (but got rejected) and would likely have agreed to go there since it's an elite Ivy school.

Sigh. I am ****ed.

If you get an evil, lying advisor paired with an evil, lying tech and have an apathetic manager the customer gets it twice as bad. Sometimes that customer's dad/son will show up with the intention to cause bodily harm to said advisor. The police were called and the advisor was told not to "do that anymore", once again.

Triathlon is a warm-weather sport day in which we start a half-marathon in late morning in July. Bring it.

And Waco has a 70.3 in October...
