Kona Paddy Wagon/Paddy Wagon 3 IGH compatibility

I notice the Kona Paddy Wagon Frame has horizontal drop outs. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what other IGH's it can accept? Anyone put a Rohloff on it? Or bigger geared IGH (than the 3 speed Sturmey Archer offered on the Paddy Wagon 3) ?

I don't see why you couldn't put on an IGH with more than 3 gears. It's a handsome bike, too.

It looks like it has 120mm rear spacing. Rohloff and the Alfine hubs are 135mm.

Edit: When spec'd as a single speed bike, it comes with a 120mm flip-flop hub, which made me assume its 120mm spacing. Its possible it has 135mm spacing but something was done to fit the 120mm hub.

Did someone at Kona not know that “Paddy wagon” is a very deragative insult?!

That's a good question. It reminds me that back in the 1950s some companies had policies against hiring Jews. Proctor and Gamble was one, and they started to develop a laundry detergent called Dreck. Since there were no Jews there, no one knew that it's a Yiddish word for sh*t. Unfortunately, someone warned before it came to market. If it had gone to market, they would have gotten the punishment they deserved.

On the other hand, Kona is not suffering properly for their error. Why don't you complain to them?

The Sturmey Archer RX RF5 can be narrowed down to 122mm by removing nuts and spacers. I have checked this myself.

Apparently the 8 speed IGH from Sturmey Archer can have a lot of width reduced,

by the nuts and spacers choices, on the axle ends..

as a 1:1 1st, and 7 overdrive gears , you would want a small chainring..
8th is 300% bigger than first..

People have put them in Bromptons, without changing the rear width.

.
That is true of the brakeless version only. Drum, disc, or coaster brake versions do not have that flexibility.
