My vague understanding of the Hindu religion is that instant karma isn't really directly consistent with the original idea of karma at all. I was also disappointed that bad people don't get reincarnated as a cockroach

From Wikipedia:

The consequence or effects of one's karma can be described in two forms: phalas and samskaras. A phala (literally, fruit or result) is the visible or invisible effect that is typically immediate or within the current life. In contrast, samskaras are invisible effects, produced inside the actor because of the karma, transforming the agent and affecting his or her ability to be happy or unhappy in this life and future ones. The theory of karma is often presented in the context of samskaras.[20]

So, barking earns a flat; schadenfreude (getting muddled here) earns unhappiness; letting your years-long, ostensibly-genius-level feud bleed over here to Commuting from A&S earns your reincarnation as an actuary or something.

An actuary could determine the probability that he would be reincarnated as a cockroach in his *next* life, which is boring but not without some merit.....

I thought the "bark" was the cyclist realizing that he had just flatted... and then was just "vocalizing" about it.
Something like "D'oh!"
More to himself, than anyone in particular... I do it all the time!

well, my response is almost always an obscenity. So then the OP would have thought it was really deserving of instant karma

Who said an existence as a cockroach or an actuary is a bad one? I've never been either, as far as I can remember.
