Upgrading from Nexus 7 to Nexus 8?

Hello,

Out of curiosity, how easy is it to upgrade a bike from a Shimano Nexus 7 to a Nexus 8?

Can it be done by just pulling out and replacing the core assembly, or does it require building a whole wheel with the new hub?

Thank you.

Just make sure the rear OLD is wide enough to accomodate the Nexus 8 hub. The Nexus 7 is a bit narrower I believe.

Looks like the difference is 5mm: Chart
EDIT sorry... lost the chart. Stand by.

This was on the "Wayback Machine"...

O.L.D. for some Shimano Internally Geared hubs.
