Jon, did you not see, my tongue in cheek when I typed "...Sprocket Railway"? I'd think if you can spot the coal flume from VT you can see my cheek puffing out from across the Connecticut River!

Yes, but as a cog-and-sprocket pedant I refuse to recognize tongues in cheeks. It was all I could do not to crack wise about the New Hampshire license-plate motto.

www.etymonline.com is a good site to bookmark if you're interested in word meanings.

"sprocket" pre-dates rollerchain; it's still used in wood framing. They are bits that project and are load-bearing. Each projecting bit is called a sprocket.

Wow, this one went all kinds of directions! Thanks for the entertaining replies. I still have hope. Jon, thanks for the chainring as it arrived Saturday. I feel it will do just find and dandy!

My Wolftooth Road Link arrived today but I doubt I'll have a chance to try it out for a while. I'm going to try it on this DA AX RD. I am concerned that it might drop the cable carrier too low and be impeded on the QR nut. It might clear by sliding the wheel forward in the dropout as far as possible.

Not an issue....I think.
