I think I finally stopped, Sara, and am in fact going the other way.
Anyone else keep a "chain log"?

I'm doing well to wipe it down, lube it and wipe it down again weekly.

I clean and lube, on the bike, approximately every other ride. I don't want to hear it on the rings, at all. Noise equals wear. I clean the cassettes about once every two weeks, and I clean the jockey pulleys on the derailleur every time I lube the chains. I don't remove the chains to clean them. I am in the process of trying out different solvents to clean the chain, I've been using WD40 and a clean rag. It doesn't get into the rollers that well, and that's where taking the chain off and soaking it would have an advantage.

I hope Cleave and Ex chime in on this. I've seen their work. They drivelines look better than new!

I'm pretty ocd regarding my bike, but not to that level. My stuff is always clean and ready, but I haven't resorted to using Microsoft to help yet.

Hi, I am OCD about my drivetrain but I don't keep a log. When it looks dirty I clean it -- compulsively. I wipe it down a couple of times per week with a dry rag. I probably lube the chain every 200-300 miles. I have been using Rock "N" Roll Gold lube for about a decade. Turns out it tested pretty well in that big independent test last year. I get it through Amazon.

Unlike you wimps in SoCal we have to deal with rain and all it's variants and the road debris left over from the winter that never really goes away. I do a full chain-off cleaning every 2-3 weeks but if we have a wet stretch I have to do a full cleaning several times a week. I use a blend of 60/40 Mobil 1 and mineral spirits. My drivetrain will look like Cleaves when it leaves the house after a full cleaning. It goes downhill from there.

I clean my drive train as needed. We have similar weather as Shovelhd. I spray the parts with Park Tool degreaser, brush it, rinse with water, then follow up with Simple Green and rinse again. Once dry I usually put a dry lube on the chain. The brand of lube varies and Finish Line is the usual, however I won a bottle of T-9 with some other swag and have been using that lately. I have no idea how many miles are on my chains. I have a chain length checker tool and replace the chain when it exceeds .75 on the scale.

Cleave's story is not believable. What I think is that he has Boeing maintenance guys under the direction of technicians from BA's special lubricants division come over to his garage and clean and lube his drive train with military grade, top secret stuff that produces negative friction.

Close but not quite. I have a negative ion generator in my chain stay that creates a negatively charged field around my drivetrain to repel dirt.
If I told all of you what I really do, you'd make fun of me and hurt my feelings.

Took care of my dad from Thursday morning until Monday night. He lives with my brother (2 years younger than me), my brother's wife, and their 3 kids, in the house where we grew up. My "little" brother (7 years younger) headed down from Maine to help out. I had Junior with me, so it was a three generation house, all males. It was hard because we can't leave my dad alone much and the house isn't child proofed for a 2 year old, so I had to be really clear with what Junior could touch or not touch ("That's for Mommy and Daddy only!" - he really understands that and tries to follow any such commands but if, for example, I don't tell him the sugar is off limits then he is okay with pouring it onto the table, floor, etc, which is one of the now-off-limits items in that house) and hope he didn't hurt himself while we were dealing with my dad. The Missus headed down for about 36 hours but had to go back to work. All in all it was very tiring. I barely hit the computer. I couldn't think outside the immediate stuff. No ride (spider web on the bike when I put it back on the car). Etc.
I hope that I'm easier to handle in 25-35 years.

I have my second PT session today. Last Friday she found what she believes to be a tear in my calf muscle; a half-golfball sized 'something', that might be what initiated the tendon issue. She also determined that my entire left calf was swollen and hot. She did some massage, stretching, and e-stim under an ice wrap. I've been repeating that, without the e-stim, twice daily. Key is to control the scarring in the calf muscle. 6 weeks of 2-3 PT sessions per week. With the probability of a tear, I stayed off the bike this week. That lump is down now, as is the inflammation, so depending on what she says, I may ride tomorrow morning.
Do your stretching, people.

It is hard to say what Wiggans is feeling. IMO, he was good at the track and returning to it solidified in his mind that he prefers the track. And I think he will focus on timed and team events where he has a competitive advantage versus mass start.
AZT, hoping that tendon / muscle heals up fast. You have had enough injury adversity.

I need a flow chart for my life. Anyone know some good software?
Doing loan docs for the new house. We're back to 140+ pages of documentation and signatures vs. the promissory note written on toilet tissue and signed in crayon pre-meltdown.
Hey everybody, it's 1985 again!
Yeah, get that out of your head now (evil laugh)

It bothers me to look at men who are prettier than I am...

In case I didn't wish you well, AzT, I hope I've been thinking of you. Get well, my friend!
