This is something that irks me more and more. How do we reduce plastic pollution? Plastic is more pervasive in US society then any other country?

Is the only option to create more laws? I don't feel like consumers will willingly pay more or lose convenience.

https://ourworldindata.org/plastic-p...ste-by-country

Looking at the data, this article says North America mismanages plastics by 0.9%. East Asia and the Pacific countries mismanage 60%. I didn't look up what that works out to be in tonnage but I'm sure it is staggering. So, we can impose more regulations, rules, expense, etc. but it won't make much of a dent in the plastics in the Ocean. I do think it is a problem since plastic has been found in the tiniest of organisms that exist in some of the deepest trenches in the ocean but we, the U.S., isn't going to change squat no matter what we do. That being said, in our house we are trying to use less plastic for whatever good that will do.

The U.S. Government and it's military ( $1.6 Trillion spent on it in the last two years alone) is the Worlds' single largest polluter.

Plastic in the Ocean is not the fault or responsibility of Western countries, yet the West are the one's who go about cleaning it up.

90% of plastic polluting our oceans comes from just 10 rivers

Yes. Carnival Cruises got caught with their pants down on how much trash they're dumping in the ocean. The government should impose crippling fines that'll stop them from polluting the waters.

Wait, the government that creates the most pollution in the world should impose fines on the cruise lines that contribute to the pollution?
Hilarious.... But not quite.

Nah. Instead let's just go populate Mars and do to it what we've done and continue to do here.
