Cycling is fun
It's looking like the last nice day for awhile, so I rode 25mi and got lunch today with my 12yo.
It was a blast. She talked about anything and everything for the entire ride, pace was good but we didnt push the speed so my mentality was different from most every other ride, and we did 1/3 road and 2/3 trail so she got some good road practice.
Couldn't have asked for a more fun afternoon.
That's all- cycling is fun.

I did a very similar ride not too long ago with my oldest son, also 12.
Never has taking so long to do 20 miles been so rewarding.

Excellent dad-ing! My fondest memories are of my grandfather and 10 y/o self riding the Neal Smith from the Saylorville campgrounds.

Fantastic. On my solo ride today, I passed a dad and his three kids, then a bit later, a mom and dad with their kid. I taught my son to fish and right now, he prefers the fishing. My daughter will ride with me when she visits in December with her cyclist BF. Fun it is.

As you might remember I did Ragbrai with my daughter & granddaughter this summer. We have also done quite a few group rides and just regular rides like you did today. I am old but will savor the memories as long as I have a memory. I think they will too. Savor those memories and make more every chance you get. There is something about a bike that brings you closer and with her at 12 years old you have a great head start!

I taught my kids, all of my grand kids and, in a few years, my great grand child, how to ride bicycles. The most recent student was my youngest grand daughter. This was the second year of learning and this year on a decent bike. For the first time, this year, she is allowed to ride to the ball park (about a quarter mile) unsupervised. What fills me with joy is the single comment she makes, every time she almost reaches the bottom of the hill. My cottage driveway is right at the top of the hill and it is pretty steep. Anyway, her comment, as she reaches bottom of the hill speed...

It's been fun riding again with my now adult daughter, gasp, soon she will be 30... But more rewarding has been the short rides with my older two grandkids 9 and 6. The 3 year old is on a balance/strider bike. But the 1 year old, I'll have to wait... The older 2 need bigger bikes, so XMas will be good for them.
