Please Help Identify Brooks Saddle...
Please Help Identify Brooks Saddle...
I rescued a nice old Gitane.
Unfortunately it has flat sewn-up tires mounted on old Mavic rims - but it has a decent saddle in not bad shape, a "Brooks Professional" with copper rivets and a very small Brooks label.
The Brooks name is in a trapezoid (not a rectangle) with sloped ends that go out at the top.
From the pictures, can anyone tell me the age and or Brooks Model Number for this old leather saddle ?
Is it from the 1970s ??

Looks to be a standard Pro of the era, definitely older and looks to be "open nose". There may be a date code on the underside of the leather, they are often faint, hard to read if there.

If you take a look at this page The Evolution of Brooks Saddle Badges it appears that yours may be 70s era. It is interesting that the professional had multiple, unique logo badge treatments, your's appears like the 'v1' shown...

Probably my favourite saddle. I've got a few of the open nose/small rivet Pro's and the quality's excellent. Or maybe a B17 Champion Narrow of the same era.

Stop reading my posts!
yep a Brooks Pro "small rivet" and did you check for a stamp in the cantle (the arched under-carriage at the rear)? Might have a date-code there, or as merziac says in the leather itself underneath top

I've got a couple of that small rivet style of Pro.

As noted, there should be a date code on the cantle plate. This one says B73, indicating it was made in 1973.
