On another note I saw an early Ritchey road at a shop in Seattle...Il Vechio's if any locals care to take a gander...I forgot to take my camera which is a shame 'cause there are some fantastic bikes in there!

my ritchey road race bike (pix). couple notes...the "plug" on the stem is made from "lignium vitae"...a (brazilian?) wood that is supposed to be harder than most metals//seatpost is ritchey mountain bike//toptube cable routing echoes his mountain bikes of that era//paint is still stunning, save for normal "sweat staining" on top tube//bottom bracket looks like melted butter...his fillet brazing is amazing//also uses eliptical seat tube where it meets bottom bracket//even the seat stays and rear wheel dropouts are...well...you can see.//hope the cobwebs (*grimace*) don't show!!

Ritchey thread - back to life!
My new 1999 Road Logic. Ride is absolutely fantastic - so smooth I couldn't believe it. Smoother than my Cervelo, but not as efficient. Done only 50 miles on it so far, but from what I can tell, it's definitely smoother than my Miyata 914. Anyone know more about Ritchey Road Logic bikes? I'd love to know more about them so any info. would be greatly appreciated!!!

NIce thread. i think i just got one of these Road Classic on Craigslist for a great price. the frame is stamped ritchey but the front logo reads ETTO bikes. frame looks pretty close. Will post pics later.

Weird that this thread is back from the dead.
Yesterday, I passed a Red Ritchey road bike on my commute from work. It had cantis and looked in pretty good shape. I made a mental note because I didn't know that Ritchey road bikes existed.

The Etto just has Ritchey dropouts as like a few Other builders has their own frame parts...Joe Breeze had his own dropouts, Richard Sachs has pretty much everything and even his own tubing line. If you ever watch Klunkerz it goes into quite a bit of the west coast builders from that time frame.

Thanks for the info. after i posted this thread i got a few more answers on the frame on another post that is started.
Its not a ritchey frame. Still working on who made it. ETTO did not make road frames from what i have researched or cant find a trace of the Etto making frames.

This Etto bike keeps getting interesting. I cleaned out last night and no only is ritchey in drop but under the BB where normally one would find a serial number the Ritchey logo is also stamped

I have a Rocky Mountain mountain bike with Richey rear drops - does that mean anything?
And, I was lucky (?) enough to find a Tom Richey, early eighties, mountain bicycle last summer. The bike is probably of Asian origin but wonderfully constructed. I was planning to restore it or, perhaps, make it into a to and from my summer cottage hybrid. Any thoughts...

The Vancouver bike store boys want a more durable frame with aggressive geometry. They call Tom Ritchey and begin to import his version of the mountain bike. They modify some components to withstand the harsh trails of the West Coast. At the same time, due to a lack of quality racing bike components available in the market, the bike store boys begin to import European bike parts and frames.

A bit of mixed history there. Tom did make some bikes that were sold only in Canada in that early (1980-81) window. These were hand-made beauties by the man, himself. Find one of those, and hold on for dear life.
The later ones made in Japan are good bikes, but not made to the same standard has handcrafted by Tom. Excellent riders.
Randy, what is the serial number on your bike. That will tell the tale. Look on the underside of the BB shell.
I'm curious to know, anyway.

I'm not after it, but I do have a "thing" for early Ritchey's. My life's favorite bike was a 1981 custom built that got stolen a few years back. If I ever find anything from that pre-82 era, I'll do what it takes . . .
But when you get the serial number, it will confirm what you have. From the photo, I'd say 85-86, but it's hard to tell without close-ups, etc. etc.
