Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nothing like a nice ripe mango. They're like peaches with attitude.

Thanks, Doug!

Clear evidence of near drought conditions for August. In fact if not for a big rain just a week ago the monthly total would have been just one inch.

Not to mention the 10 days of 90° or more.

WhyFi is going to take up home metal work and machining just to save $40 on a "must have" coffee gizmo accessory. He's probably waiting on the shipping on the lathe now.

You could save $40 AND not have to learn how to turn metal by spending $10,000 on a CNC lathe!

We dress funny enough without making a spectacle of ourselves, yet we do a great job of that too. I feel your pain, and hope all is OK.

Tell her the old ones wore out.

Might work. When I told her the old wheels were from 2006, she said, "That's 13 years old!"

Mind you, my steel frames are 28 and ~30 years old......

I hope you feel better fast.
While you recover, to kill some time, sue the state for putting that post there.
A guy I know hit a sign post, and he blamed the state because they moved the post.

Defense counsel: So, Dr. W, do you pass that sign often in your travels?
Plaintiff: Uhh, twice...every...uh...day, sir.

Thanks. I am feeling better and will be on the bike tomorrow.

My moment of stupidity on the road:

I'm stopped in the shade enjoying some 75° water, when I notice something on my tyre. At closer inspection I see it's a big ol' goathead.

"Hmmm, wonder if I should ...

Damn thing was way over on the chicken strip. I could've easily made it home as long as I didn't lean into a left turn or you know, touched it.

Bike was a gritty mess after today’s wet roads. I did a lazy but adequate cleaning. No gasoline was used, only water and citrus degreaser.

A friend worked for Caltrans, the California road dept. He had to install a huge 45mph warning sign for a tight turn in a road because a drunk claimed he couldn't read it while he was drunk.
The drunk's lawyer successfully argued that though the sign was big enough normally, his client couldn't see it well enough while he was drunk.
