Kenosha - Few pix from last night.
My first time with a real camera at the track, it's tough! Fast speeds, low light = blurry pictures.
Here's my best from last night ...
I didn't want to use a flash because I thought it would be too distracting (at the World Champs that would be a different story!).
I'll be back to try again.

Those are amazing pictures. thanks alot for sharing them.
the lack of noise tells me the iso was kinda low. raise
at this size dont sweat it. and it will allow you to run a faster shutter speed as well.

Kenosha is really tricky lighting-wise. I start the night at ISO400 and tend to end at ISO2000 or ISO3200. The uneven lighting and shadows cast across the velodrome surface are rough. You have to shoot from the infield, though! You can get a bit closer and capture more of the facial expressions.

Well, I had the ISO at max (3200) but was trying to keep the shutter at 1/250 otherwise I was getting too much blur. There are definite 'hot spots' in the lighting and I'll try the infield next time. The place was so empty (riders and spectators) that I didn't want to stick out too much for my first time shooting there.
Will try again next Tuesday.

I still love your shots
other tips for low light action. find 1 light draw a line between you and that light or put the light over your shoulder. and shot so it is bouncing off your subject ignore the other lights.
open your lens as wide as it will go, dont zoom in, you can get a somewhat faster shutter speed that way. and then just crop the picture later.
if you are shooting 10mb you should still have enough detail.
or do tracking shots with the camera in burst mode
or buy a faster lens........

What colors? I recall seeing a Navy rider at the WI State TT Champs:

So they are around. Not sure though, it was my first time at the track this year.
