Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If you are 6ft, 54cm sounds a little small, but that depends on your body portions. Also if you're going to be buying a road bike for the first time I would see if you could check out local bike shops or craigslist in order to see what kind of frame size fits you, instead of buying a bike online.

I just noticed it said local pickup. If you can test it out, I would definitely do that before I'd buy it. I don't know much about older bikes, but that looks like it would be a decent starter bike.

Ive visited a local bike shop and they had nice bikes there but i cant afford even there cheapest bike.
As for my body shape proportions ive got slightly long legs. They said id be a size 56 but im wondering if a 54 would still be fine to get away with?
I could organise a test ride but it only has 1 day left on ebay.

^^ I agree it sounds smallish. I am quite statuesque and ride a 59. but if it is close go and look.

I'm 5'11 and ride 58's you really need to try the bike, depending on your reach and your flexablity it will alter what size you go with.

I agree with this and the others that said this sounds too small. Give it a ride before buying. 58 will be more in your range depending on proportions.
