911 Response Drill for Bike/Ped Path
Does anyone have any experience with a response drill (911 call > EMT response) for bike paths?
In my area we are developing long (2 mile+) trail segments that don't have easy road access and often span overlapping and unmarked jurisdictions. We're thinking about how we might run some drills to see where our gaps are.
Thank you.

That is a great approach. The best time to solve a problem is before it is a problem. Here in Rhode Island, the East Bay Bike Path has numerous access points for most of its length. At a longer section at the north end with more limited access, emergency vehicles can drive on the MUP itself. Here in out part of the East, everything is closer together so that there would be minimal uncertainty about jurisdiction.

Very interesting timing on this post for us here. A body was just found in a creek right off a very busy MUP I ride multi-times a week. Homicide, it appears. Lotta somewhat sketchy people on this trail during dark hours. Significant sections on this trail are not asily accessible by any roadway. I have always wondered, if something bad happened (someone having a cardiac event, hit by a deer, cougar attack--whatever) and I were still able to dial 911, how I would describe for them where exactly I was. This trail is about 30 miles in length or so. Not really sure I could tell them just where I was on certan sections of the trail. I use RWGPS--maybe that could help?

On most of the paths around here there are markers on the asphalt every so often that have a location number. When you call 911 you can tell them you are near marker number X.
