I think that many people consider themselves good cooks at home. But many are not, based on what I have experienced.
As a master chemist I know the importance of mixing things and cleaning my glassware. I have seen many people cook and I have seen their kitchens afterwards. It looks like a three year old tried to make cookies unsupervised; I have a three year and I have seen him make cookies supervised and it is easy to extrapolate. Their food may taste okay but that is only half the battle. It needs to be the cooks responsibility to keep a clean prep and cooking area. I think that good food in a clean environment is a sign of a good cook.
I usually do not like going out to eat, since I know I can get comparable ingredients and make food of quality near 80% of high end restaurants for less money. My biggest downfall is presentation and my portions are larger.
I love a brisket slow roasted on a bed of sliced onions with a few grinds of pepper, served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes and tarragon and butter coated green beans.

...I make a whole wheat pancake that would make Aunt Jemima weep with envy.
BTW, why does the censor pick up on ******, *******, and ****,
but allow Aunt Jemima, which is quite obviously racist in every regard ?

I just completed a 'scientific' internet research project. My findings are that the percentage of roadie snobbery is within the same percentage range as 93.7% of all other interest groups. Therefore, the results are true / false.

That is the error that seems to be so common on the 41. Out of hand dismissal of the commercial product in favor of the homemade. I'm sure your cakes are quite good. But there is no rational reason to believe the commercial mix isn't absolutely top notch, at least not without a controlled competition, which just isn't going to happen. Understand I am not saying the AJ cakes are better. I'm saying they are very, very good and have a shot at winning a battle.

I think those with disposable income like pastimes that require shopping for equipment. Spending time researching online, talking to people about your choices, and then ultimately buying the equipment has many hours of enjoyment in it for some.

Of course, this is not at all what we see on an AJ package these days except for the portrait of AJ herself. Is it worse to take her picture off the box or leave it on? Consider the ability for the personification of AJ to have evolved. Should we say she has no place today as a corporate spokesperson the likes of the equally fictional, but very white Betty Crocker? I consider the modern package to be a form of redemption of the AJ concept. Why don't we celebrate that?

Scones with COFFEE**********?? One does not take their scones with coffee - EVER! One always takes their scones with jam - handmade from the fruits of the garden, freshly whipped cream and the beverage of choice is, naturally, Tea......lol

Is this one of the "rules"?
