Right!

The one at eurobike was plugged into a wall outlet to make it shift. Going to need one heck of a cord for riding LMAO

So as soon as the electric shift fails, as electronics do, the bearings will fail to step and crash the sprocket...

And only one tooth is under load at any given time?! Okaaay then.

Every driveshaft system so far has been less efficient than chain because the direct application of the chain to the cogs is inherently more efficient than the angling required by the driveshaft. Is there any real reason to believe their claims they reversed this?I

I'm of the opinion that they know this is a dead end and are just using what they have to promote the brand. If they really were on the verge of a breakthrough, they wouldn't be showing this stuff because it might help someone else to get there first.

I'm as far from being an engineer as an adult can be, but the fact that the demo had to be plugged into a wall socket instead of running off a battery suggests that it has to be constantly under power to keep the bike in gear. This is a lot more demanding of the electronics than just moving the derailleurs as current electronic shifting does.

So if this was a production bike it would last one ride? Doesn’t Di2 batteries last hundreds of hours at a charge?

Look i am all about cool and concept designs and new ideas. But this isn’t new, and its seeming to just be a hype builder for the company. I would be willing to bet this will still be hashed out next year with the same bike system with still non usable system.

Doing it better is more important than doing it first. Besides, the creativity in the bike industry is pretty primitive compared to the tech world. High prices don't equal high tech.

Innovation and creativity are what keeps biking from getting stagnant..high prices are companies way of milking bike rubes out of their money... don’t believe me then why does a simple thing like a bicycle cost 8000 or more

Ah come on, what if it used a bamboo frame, and was made of all-natural materials, wouldn't it just be the coolest thing..?

Pretty much all of the previous shaft drive systems have used bevel gears, ie: teeth-on-teeth. Whether it's been straight cut or helical, it's pretty much like what you'd find in a shaft-drive moto, just smaller scale.

What CS did, and you can see it pretty clearly on their 2018 interbike demo, is replace all the 'teeth' on the shaft pinion 'gears' with individual bearings. It looks kinda like a flower, when viewed from the end. The teeth on the crank and cassette are shaped to drive and be driven by those circular bearing races.

It's a neat piece of design, esp the CNC 'cassette,' but it pretty much requires a bespoke bike frame to make it work.

It supposedly is about 99% efficient as opposed to a 'conventional' Dura-Ace, that peaks at 98%. That is, of course, if they can get it working, not the less production-ready.

What’s wrong with biking getting stagnant? It was allways just pedalling and turning handlebars. And that’s a good
thing. The bicycle is scientifically solved since 1902 or something.

I couldn't count the number of men and women in my riding group who have bikes that "cost 8000 or more." "Rube" is not a term I'd associate with any of them....
