PSA for large people - 67cm 1970s Cinelli SC on the 'Bay

Yep, you read right. A big ol' honkin' Cinelli Special Corsa is up on eBay. And somebody here who is even taller than I am needs to by it. @merziac? @riddle of Steel? Anyone? Buehller?

Here's the link. It lives in San Jose CA. The listing says it was sold in 1974 by Spence Wolf to the original owner, who sold it back to Spence Wolf, who sold it to the current seller.

Here are some stats copied from the listing: 68.5cm ctt or 67 ctc seat tube, 60cm ctc top tube, Stand-over 92cm.

Opening bid: $2,499.00 Shipping: $200.00.

Edit: I should add that I have nothing to do with this bike or this auction and all I know about this bike is what is in the listing. Caveat emptor, and all that.

Here's a photo.

Wow, aside from the BIG $$$$$, 92cm standover might be a TT too far, I would like to try it to see but it's not in the cards.

I have a 62cm early 60's frame that is of course a bit small as this one is a bit big that will have to hold me over

until I get very lucky again,on one my perfect size.

Well, it's a 48-43-32 up front, so the NR might be able to handle it. How well the NR handles that range is a different question. I am mildly surprised that Spence Wolf didn't outfit it with one of his famous house-built NR long cages. Maybe he had stopped doing that by 1974

In any event, it's too big for me and I've got mine x2, so I'll leave it to someone even more freakishly large than I am. I do note, though, that the top tube is 1.5cm shorter than my two 64cm (mid-1960s) examples.

BTW, I saw an even bigger Cinelli (70cm) of almost exactly the same vintage at the first Eroica CA. The owner let me throw a leg over it. I was able to stand over the top tube (juuust barely and not comfortably while wearing dress shoes). He offered to let me take a quick spin on it, but I declined, as every stop would have been an adventure, with the top tube wanting to become much too closely acquainted with parts of my anatomy best left alone. That, and I did not want the responsibility for having damaged his unicorn. (Well, he did have a second one, he said, but still . . .)

I think it’s been raided of the custom cage.

If that was a Spence Wolfe setup, it may have had a custom cage or RD, he had alpine setups for many of the top frames of the day and the SC's were one of his favorites.

He also had Merz build several custom frames for his customers.

think of that more upright riding position without a highrise stem...

There's nothing more sad than a bike with deflated tires.

This would be exactly my size, but not my budget. $2,700 with shipping seams a bit steep to me, but if you want it you will be waiting a long time for another.

Maybe. I used a short-cage SunTour Cyclone II with 48-45-34 up front and 13-24 in back without any problems.

That is not a 24t freewheel. Cyclone is a more forgiving mechanism, as it swings in it does not swing UP.
