Story:
Selling because I’ve discovered that 58cm seat tubes are a little more comfortable for me. Everything was stripped down, cleaned, polished, re-greased (bottom bracket, headset, both wheel hubs). The frame had a lot of surface chips and scrapes so I sanded those parts, primed, and touched up with some blue paint, the idea being to preserve as much of the original finish as possible. It’s not a great match, but it’s close.

Frame:
Double butted Reynolds steel throughout (frame, stays, forks)
Simplex dropouts (“fish-mouth” fork drop outs ID this as a US market TDF)
22 inch/56cm seat tube measured center to top
22 inch/56cm top tube measured center to center
Totally straight, no rust or cracks, very, very minor dent (barely noticeable) on top tube
Typical delicate French paint so lots of touch up to protect the metal and preserve as much of the original finish as possible, not pretty, but not terrible either
Chrome in great shape
Rear hanger was modified to handle the Campy RD and has a threaded insert-type thing going on

Campagnolo Nuovo Record front and rear derailleurs (Pat 84 on RD)
Campagnolo shifters (Valentino? Gran Sport?)
Campagnolo downtube cable clamp
MAFAC Racer brake calipers
Weinmann drilled brake handles
Pivo stem and handlebars, fresh light gray bar tape
Turbo saddle B17-like generic brown leather saddle on a lightweight fluted aluminum seat post (I think Kalloy)
Stronglight 93 crank 42/52 tooth
Stronglight headset
Original French rear cog (14 – 26 tooth)
Generic pedals


Wheelset:
Mavic Module E2 double-eyeletted rims
Normandy Luxe Competition front hub (110mm spacing)
Campagnolo Nuovo Tipo (Gran Sport) rear hub (120mm spacing)
Forte 700c x 25 tires with lots of life left
At my asking price I’ll throw in the matching Campy Tipo front hub that would’ve been original to the bike, I can rebuild the front wheel with the matching hub if that’s a dealbreaker. If we go this route, I’d like to keep the Normandy Luxe.

The elusive yellow saddle!

I own a 58 center to center (59/60 center to top) Gitane TdF which is a little larger than I like. Heck if this were a 56 center to center, that would be a perfect size; 56 center to top is a bit smaller than I like. I've had a tough time finding a 57 cm TdF.

Nice job on the rehab. This bike is very nicely fixed up.

Yes it is! It fits the retro-mod Team Renault theme that this bike accidentally took on.

Thank you. I was planning for this to be a keeper. It seems we're on the same boat for sizing -- a 57cm would probably be ideal but I've only ever found 58cm and this one here. Gitane sizing seems to vary so hopefully one of these pops up for you at some point!

I thought this would get more attention than it has, but it's also winter, holiday season, etc. I'll lower the price and then consider parting it out afterwards -- realize that waiting for spring would probably get me more favorable results but I need the space more than anything else.

I'd yank the saddle and sell separately! I have one already and have been offered good money for it. Throw on a black saddle and replace hoods on bike w/ black ones and it may even move for current price.

Gitane like MOST Euro bike makers measured their frame sizes Center to Top until the hyena slopping top tube bikes came along.



During the 70's, Gitanes came in 50cm, 54cm, 57cm, 60cm, 62cm and 64cm size frames - "NOMINAL MEASUREMENTS". (19 1/2", 21 1/2", 22 1/2", 23 1/2", 24 1/2" and 25 1/2" Nominal Sizes).

I have a 1972 57cm C-to-T all Campy Gitane Super Corsa that I haven't ridden in a number of years. Thinning out the herd, yada, yada, yada.

I generally wouldn't part out a complete originally equipped bike but for someone who has all the right components and just needs a frame I'd make an exception.

Years-long bump! I still have this and want to sell, but with a few changes.

• Price lowered!!
• Turbo saddle is gone, but I'll include a brown b-17 copy if you want it
• I'd like to keep the front wheel (Simplex hub) but will include another complete front wheel (low flange shimano/mavic) so that the bike is complete
• If you really want the matching wheels, I have another matching Mavic rim that I can throw in along with the tipo HF hub
• Can still do frame + hs + bb
