Brooks Leather Creeking?
Hey everyone -
just purchase a Brooks Team Pro, brand new (yes - it is being discontinued, but there is stock still available). Put some Proofhide on it and wiped it off the top. Riding with it for first time on trainer today and not bad. But 30 minutes in, the leather sides started rubbing against the rails, causing a squeak. I weigh around 145 - 150 pounds, so I am not some Clydesdale on the saddle.
(a) Is this just normal break in?
(b) Does it need tightening already, and will that eliminate this?
(c) Is this a sign the saddle has an issue?

me first thought that sound source elsewhere as well
might be in mounting clamp, always wise to lubricate theads on saddle mount
possible a turn of the adjustment tensioner would make it go away
will look forward to following along to learn which procedure creates "the sound of silence"

Spray the underside tension area (horn) leather with a little machine oil type light lubricant. The squeak will disappear. The squeak is fairly common on newish saddles.

When up Brooks Creek....
...one needs a paddle.
PS - I sense that fishboat knows where to rent paddles.

- Might that soften the leather too much?
- Should I just try to shove Proofide under there?
- Or, will it just go away with time, and I am on the trainer anyways right now, and who cares, because I am not bothering other people?

Very common, warm a little Proofhide so it will flow around the frame/leather joint if it bothers you. I would not think a tension adjustment is needed, if you do try a 1/4 turn at the maximum.

I had the same issue. After researching it a bit I came across the spray lube solution to the problem. I sprayed the metal-leather interface of the assembly that holds the tension nut with a couple squirts(one on each side) of all purpose lube(light machine oil). The squeak is gone. That was a year and a 1000 miles ago. The saddle is unchanged other than not having a squeak. Proofide might work, if you can get it into the right spot..of course, if it doesn't, then you still have the issue..

On my Pro the skirts are tighter than they are on a B17. With the saddle pushed all the way back the skirt makers contact with the post clamp. As others have said maybe a touch of Proofhide at the point of contact will act as a lubricant and stop the creaking.
