Reading Dharma Bums by Kerouac for the 3rd or 4th time and trying to finish The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. I started it a cool 2 years ago and still not done.

Stephenson's writing is good enough to keep me engaged through what easily could be too tedious detail. From what I gather, the second and third parts of the book pick up pace a bit.

Just started "The Death of Marco Pantani - an autobiography" I found at 1/2 price books.
I got about 1/2 way through Quicksilver and bogged down. I have a real love hate relationship
with Stephenson, loved some of his stuff, hated some of it. so far Cryptonomicon was my favourite.
Also just read Bone Carving a skillbase of techniques and concepts

I set aside Quicksilver for the moment, as I was sent a copy of Red Seas Under Red Skies, Scott Lynch's follow up to The Lies of Locke Lamora.
Great summer reading. Fast paced caper plot. Much fun.

Reading The Ministry of Special Cases by Nathan Englander. I'm alternating between stomach-dropping dread and junkie admiration for Englander's writing. It's differend from his short story collection, For the Relief of Unbearable Urges. (Which was incredible, BTW.)

"Undaunted Courage" by Stephen Ambrose. A biography of Capt. Lewis of the Lews & Clark expedition. Simply amazing to read about their first encounters with the varied wildlife, country and native american tribes.

Houellebecq's HP Lovecraft: Against The World, Against Life. So far, it's kind of unintentionally funny. Houellebecq takes Lovecraft's idiosyncrasies and explains them as precursors of Houellebecq's own brand of antimodern miserabilism. Still, good biographical bits re Lovecraft, plus the occasional insight from Houelle.

Recently finished listening to Cold Dish and Death Without Company by Craig Johnson, Big Red Tequilla by Rick Riordan and Seizing the Enigma: The Race to Break the German U-Boats Codes, 1939-1943 by David Kahn. Will start this weekend on Last Car To Elysian Fields by James Lee Burke.
