Nice find, I saw it posted on the Forum earlier. Is it a Paramount? Paging Kurt and/or Scooper.

It is supposed to be a Paramount, but I have never owned one so I am not sure. I rolled the dice on this one.

The serial doesn't follow known paramount convention:

I think you may have a super le tour, or superior, or other model. But the true knowers of the knowledge will soon weigh in here I'm sure!

Very nice bike but I think it is a Chrome Voyageur. Still, it is pretty cool.

That's no Paramount.

It's a Voyageur 11.8 with a Paramount badge (EDIT: WHAT WAS I THINKING? That ain't no Paramount badge - that's the original Voyageur badge.)

I think forum member Michael Angelo would be more than willing to trade or buy that frame from you - and I'm willing to trade for the badge.

Huh, what Paramount badge? The badge on the head tube should say Paramount where it reads Chicago.

It is not a Paramount, but it is chrome. Polish it up and ride it!

well at least it is still likely worth what I paid for it, at least locally. Just not as much as it would be as a Paramount.

Tell me, is it wearing 27" wheels when it should have a set of 700C's?

I think it may be a Super Le Tour 12.2 as Norskagent suggested above. I have a 25" chrome Voyageur 11.8 and I notice three differences right off the bat.
  • Slightly different HT lugs
  • Different fork crown (might not be original fork - nothing else is!)
  • Voyageur 11.8s did not have bottle cage bosses (no 11.8s that I've seen)

But here's the deciding factor. What is the diameter of the stem?

So it's not a Paramount. It is a fully-chromed, chromoly frame. Nice pickup!

edit: The dropouts are different too. 11.8s have forged dropouts with threaded eyelets. One of my 11.8s dropouts were Tange, but the chrome one's dropouts are unmarked.

Not a Voyageur 11.8. All I've encountered have 26.8mm seat posts and 21.13mm stems.

Here's the catalog scan for the '78 Super Le Tour 12.2. I don't see brazed on bottle cage bosses, though.

Both of my 77 and 78 SLT 12.2s do not have bottle bosses.

Superior?

That's a stamped rear dropout. How much did you pay for the bike?

Were stamped dropouts with a derailleur hanger common?

Toytech, does the frame have a clear coat on it?

I'm thinking it might not even be a Schwinn. Does the SN jive, Schwinn guys?

Those are horizontal drops too, not vertical.

Look for vertical-drop models first; chroming second.

In the mid-1980's, stamped vertical dropouts were not out of the question; they were used on MTB frames too.

It may not be a Schwinn - look at the right-hand badge screw. There isn't one. Toytech, can you pull the left screw out to expose the drilling pattern under the badge?
