Saffron vs. Belle vs. Legor Cicli
I have been furiously trying to figure out finally getting a custom steel build sorted. Been quite the task over the past year or so. There is not much in the way of a singular spot of information on the various builders, so I was hoping to maybe pick the collective consciousness of BF. I think I have narrowed to these three builders, any just wondered who had any direct or indirect feedback on them? Saffron is pretty well known, and very nice. The wildcard is I love Italian bikes, and the story of Mattia at Legor intrigues me. The Belles I've seen have just been eye catching, I have not too much other info besides Christian Meier of the Service Course loves them.

I have found that dealing in person if at all possible is the better method to insure you end up with what you expect (then over the internet or phone). Any chance you can tell us where you are? Andy

The short answer is I am quite a few places, so all of these work for in person for me. I guess the complicated answer right now is that the there is obviously a whole crazy virus situation, so I'm on the mid Atlantic coast of the US for a moment. I spend quite a bit of time in London and northern Italy in usual times, so Saffron is easy and Belle and Legor are doable with quick hops to Barcelona from Milan. If travel restriction drag on for another year I may have to reevaluate my options, but I think I can hold out till next season to make a decision.

Since it's a custom build there's no reason why Saffron can't essentially make an Italian bike for you.
To me that means very traditional: horizontal TT, square geometry (ST same length as TT), 1" TT, pencil thin seatstays, straight chainstays, no clearance for fat tyres. My kind of bike basically

I have to admit there is also an emotional component to it too, so getting a bike made by an Italian is tempting. I adore Saffron though, have been a fan for awhile.
