Columbus Tretubi decal years of manufacture?
Hello,
I'm getting a bicycle with a Columbus Tretubi decal, and I was wondering if someone out there had a Columbus tubing catalog handy, and could tell me when this decal was offered for sale. The person I bought the frame from said that on this particular frame, the three main tubes are SL. It is a little strange, since "TreTubi" seems to refer to a particular usage of Columbus tubing (that the three main tubes are Columbus) rather than the tubing type (Aelle, SL, SLX, etc.)
From What I've been able to find, this decal seems to appear on early to mid 1980's bikes, but if anyone out there can give me specific dates, I would be very grateful.

I also have a bike with a TreTubi decal and I have also heard and believed that the three main tubes were Columbus SL. My bike is an 83 and at that time Columbus did not indicate SL or SP on the regular Columbus decals you would just assume that if it was a 58cm or larger bike it was SP.
There were Aelle bikes at the same time as TreTubi bikes but they were less expensive then a TreTubi bike so I think that is also an argument that it is SL.

Also I don't think that you will find the TreTubi decal in a Columbus Catalog because it wasn't a full tube set. A TreTubi bike could easily have tubing from another manufacturer for the rest of the frame.

anyone have a photo of the decal? im working on completing the decals on my 84 Bianchi Nuovo Racing, but cant find a photo of the tretubi decal to have cyclomondo redo

I can't find images of the decal either, but I'll post some pictures once the bike arrives. I'll most likely be repainting it, so I'll need that little decal for my restoration arsenal too.

My 1981 Bianchi has a tre tubi frame, but the decal is pretty much obliterated.

I have a blury one below. In a few days I could send another better one if you would like. It is from a fresh 58 cm Marinoni that I just purchased. 80's vintage with biopace and 105. Very low mileage with zero brake wear on rims, I am hesitating to be the one to scatch it up but my Miyata 110 is finished

William: I have a catalog scan from '79 that shows the "tretubi" decal similar to Paul Waque's. There is a typical clumsy translation of Italian to English that says something like: "there is apart from the complete series, the supply of reduced series is foreseen and it is formed by the triangle alone."
Clear? I thought so...anyhow, it seems to me that a tretubi set could consist of the 3 mains being anything Columbus offered at the time: SL, SP, Aelle, or even Zeta with whatever stays and forkblades you wanted. Certainly some big customers like Bianchi had their own proprietary "tretubi" sets made and special decals with their logos combined with Columbus.
But, this is only legitimizing a practice that was established well before "79: plenty of Italian builders cut corners by combining 3 main tubes of Columbus (SL or a blend) with Falck stays and blades. It was common practice, even among the "big men" of frame-building.

The serial number indicates my bike is a 1989 model. I bought it after we found my wife a 1993 Marinoni Special touring bike, and I guess that I was jealous. The silver Special has Deore DX and 105 components, I added pictures of the tube. They are both in good condition and fit well; we are pleased.
