Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

canon t2i. im happy with the end result for a first go, the 'crispness' of the image (the bike more so then the bg) on the other hand does not hold up to my other photos in the daylight... a little grainy for my taste.

What is going on here? Im lost. I've been riding my madone like mad lately, first time on the fixed gear in a while so i thought i'd snag some photos.

I feel dumb, but what is going on with the MS Paint line photo? haha

Nothing spectacular . . . a mostly stock 2009 Bianchi Pista found recently at substantial discount as "new old stock" . . .
  • Fitted cranks with Shimano PD-A520 SPD pedals.
  • Flipped the rear hub around and geared it down slightly from ~81 inches to ~72 inches with a 3/32 18T track cog and have it fairly secure using a BB lock ring and liberal quantity of Loctite (no sudden skid stops allowed ).
  • Added front brake with a cross lever. Remove two bolts and it comes off to make it track legal (along with flipping rear wheel back around).
  • Swapped stock 130mm 17d stem for a used 90mm 5d Origin 8 found dirt cheap in a LBS parts box as the reach in the drops was too long (frame fits legs well; upper body needs shorter stem). It's temporary until I can find a 90mm or 100mm silver stem. Wanted to see first if 90mm fits well before paying for a new one.
I'll be using it most of the time for commuting to work, hence gearing it down some for city riding (no major hills to climb), but want to be able to switch it quickly for track use. Just ordered a pair of clipless pedal adapters with toe clips so I don't have to ride to work in cleated cycling shoes.

P.S.
I should put the stock 130mm stem back on (so it's horizontal) and do some measurements, or get a friend to dig out a UCI geometry compliance template. UCI reg 1.3.022 requires drop bars to be no further forward than a vertical line through the front wheel spindle, with a 5cm tolerance allowed. Would be interesting to see if it passes with the stock stem. Used a plumb bob (an old yoyo) with the 90mm stem and it still encroaches slightly into the 5cm tolerance zone.
