Front Der problem

I have a triple crank. I have the front derailleur limit screws set correctly I think and cable is tight on small ring. It shifts through the 3 rings going up OK but shifting down it skips from the big ring to the small and skips the middle chainring. Any suggestions?

This sometimes happens when the "H"limit screw is set a little too tight. It can just shift up to the big ring ok, but the tension required to do this means that when the shift is made to the middle ring, the released tension causes the chain to be spring too far and ends up on the smallest ring.

Also make sure you're not off by 1-click. When pulling the cable tight with FD on small-ring, make sure the shifter has been shifted all the way down as well.

This can be caused by too much cable tension.

FWIW, I usually set the low, reset the cable in the clamp with a couple turns on the barrel adjuster, then set the high. from there, I am usually able to adjust the middle with the barrel 1 click either way or so. By no means an expert, but this works for me.
