I still have the 1971 Schwinn Racer my Grandfather bought brand new in 1971. He died in 1972 and I have had it ever since.
Still ride it at least once every year on his birthday...sure wish he had been born in June.

I still have my 76 Schwinn Super Le Tour 12.2 my cousin bought new, which I bought from him 5 years later. I also have an 80 Super Le Tour my grandfather won at a local grocery store, which he gave to me since he was already in his eighties and wasn't planning on taking up bike riding. I also have a 78 Schwinn Superior. My sister and I each bought one new in 79. I sold mine years ago but I recently bought hers from her. I just finished restoring it and love it. I'd post pictures but I don't have enough posts yet.

Purchased my Eisentraut Limited frame in 75 at The Missing Link on the Cal campus. (Still have the receipt). Most likely build by Bruce Gordon, but no way to prove it. Built it up with the parts I could afford, Modelo, Cinelli, Mavic, Campy. Kept my Brooks pro saddle from my 1971 PX-10. Changed parts over the years. Always kept indoors. Ridden hard until my mid forties, then lightly from time to time. Recently completely rebuilt it. All NOS campy with Phil Wood hubs. Kept the Brooks seat. I debated about painting it - the original brown paint was still viable - but I decided to let JB make it look new again. Don’t regret it. This bike will be around for another 42 years. It would be considered too tall for me, but I think many older bikes would be considered “too tall” - we used to use “touching the crotch” for frame fitting. I always felt comfortable on the bike - still do. Take if for a spin now and then. Lovely bike, lots of good memories. Somebody will find it in a garage sale in 2050 - hopefully they’ll know what they found.

Bought new with money earned mowing lawns... recently fixed-up, it's my main ride again! My recollection is this bike cost me ~$235 (circa 1979, Northern Virginia Cycles). Bought the Blackburn rack that day too (~$30) and a Rhode Gear "Citadel" lock (not shown). For over a decade, when I lived in dry Colorado, that Citadel lock secured our back gate. I've cleaned it up, and use it in the bike room at work now.

My first bicycle, received 55 years ago, was a fat-tired Schwinn. My mountain bike continues the fat-tired Schwinn tradition.
My second bicycle, received 6 months later, was a Bianchi road bike. The tradition continues.
In 1973 a college pal gave me a Capo Modell Campagnolo frame w/ various parts. My current Capos continue the tradition.

The more things change, the more they stay the same ... .

I purchased my '85 Centurion Ironman on 7/15/85. I wish I still had the sales slip, but I do have the "owners Manual" such as it is. Purchased from Magnolia Alpine Hut in Seattle.

Peugeot Premiere,
bought new in 1986 or 87. Now has 9 speed Shimano gearing, Campagnolo Chorus chainset, Vuelta wheels. Still the original bars, stem, and Weinmann brakes and levers - thinking about replacing the levers with Shimano brifters.

I've still got my 1980 Ross Gran Tour I bought back then, its been apart though for about 10 years. I took it apart to pack for a move back then and just never got around to putting it all back together again.

I believe it was winter '85/'86 when I bought my 1984 Trek 720 clearance priced for just $425 in Greenwich, CT.

Indexed shifters had arrived on new bikes by then, and the friction-shifted (albeit with a Duopar changer) Trek was probably seeming to the store's owner as something that wouldn't be any too quick to sell, come springtime.

I've made a few changes, including 700c Mod4 rims on solid-high-flange, narrowed tandem hubs that I built myself, and later even added 7s RSX STI shift levers, just because I had them.

It's been sitting unused in my storage room for a couple of years now and it would be a challenge to get in there and photograph it. It has the soft ride of a Cadillac and wasn't made for sprinting.

When I finally get 10 posts I'll try to get some pics of the two Chas Roberts frames built for me in 1984-85. And one of his dad's frames, Chas repainted, purchased from Hallet's in Albuquerque, 1981 or so...............

Technically it's my dad's bike, he bought it when he was in Okinawa; But it's in my garage, and i'm the one putting the miles on it.

I bought the frame for my F-XXXX in 1996, so that's 23 years ago. I suspect it'll still be in service in another 7.
