I would like to try to run a Campy chain on my Shimano 9 and 10 speed bikes. I know that the width is subtly different by like 0.1mm internally causing an incompatibility. But I thought they also spec'd a few that were listed as being Shimano compatible.

Could anyone list specific Campy chains that are compatible with Shimano 9 speed (Ultegra 6603 triple crank/Ultegra 6500 cassette) and/or Shimano 10 speed (Dura Ace 7800 crank/SRAM PC-1070 cassette) compatible? I would really like to try one of these since I have been doing chain waxing on a 2 chain system and would like to try to experiment with the Campy since I have read that it can last much longer. I wore out my KMC chain in one year with only about 3,000 miles on it. I might get a bit more miles from my SRAM chains but not much. Also, I want to try the Campy chains with wax to see if they might be a bit more silent than the KMC or SRAM chains when waxed. Mine both tend to get kind of "grindy" sounding after the initial outer coating of wax flakes off.

why does it have to be a Campag owned chain making machine , made chain ?

FWIW, Campag used to resell chains bought in bulk from Rohloff of Germany..

I doesn't have to be "Campagnolo" but something like one of their chains is what I am seeking. I saw an episode of "How it's Made" on TV an they were showing Campy chains being manufactured and I thought I saw somewhere that they were coming out of Portugal. I used a Wippermann Inox stainless chain on my Ultegra 9 speed drivetrain one time and it did not mesh well. I actually sent the chain back to the US distributor or Wippermann chains and they sent me a new one. I may strip the cosmoline off of that one in a 2 step pickle jar of clean mineral spirits and then wax it in some Molten Speed Wax in the crock pot and try that.

But yeah, back to the original question - I'm pretty sure that a few of the Campagnolo chains were known to be Shimano compatible. I just need to know which ones??

I know of the opposite, a Shimano 9sp chain will work on a Campy 10sp cassette. But 10sp chains are interchangeable. I don't know about 9sp. That said, I've always put 10sp Campy chains on my main bike. I only did the Shimano 9sp because I swapped around wheels and a 10sp Campy wheel landed on that bike by default, and it worked fine.

bike chains all 1/2" pitch differs roller - inside and over all outside .. chain 'Speeds' is more widths , thicknesses..

This is a good question... compatibility issues...
Seems Like the Dura Ace CN-7701 is narrow enough, I haven't tried it but Campy prices might convince me to experiment.
