Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

35 gram water bottle cage for less that $4

A friend recommended this cage to me ...

https://www.mec.ca/Products/product_d...=1179028056510

Holds a powerade 710 mL bottle in place quite well. MEC's web page states the cage is for MTB's but works well on my road bike. All I needed was 2 @ 4mm thick alloy washers to space the back of the cage off the frame. At 35 grams, it should make any weight weenie happy.

So do you get lightweight water to go with it or do you make do with regular water?

I used to fill up my bottles at the Nuclear Building at school, but I stopped when I found out it was heavy water.

FYI...they suck.

Unless you like having bottles come out when you hit expansion joints or railroad tracks.

I love my Performance stainless steel MTB cages (on my road bike). Stiff, don't bend out of shape, hold large bottles securely, look beafy, and cheap. Blackburn Chicane stainless cages are identical to the Performance ones. They weigh 55 grams each and I couldn't care less about the extra weight. Lightweight cages tend to spit out large heavy bottles which is a no-no in my world. https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=4342

I have a stash of old Cateye and Specialized cages. I loved using them but they're faded and brittle now so I don't use them anymore. But man they're cool.

Bring powdered water. Way lighter than anything. Then just add water when you need to drink it.

I've been using these for years. Polar 24 oz bottles fit like a glove in them.

Nahh... check out these two deals.

https://cgi.ebay.com/2-Meks-Carbon-Fi...QQcmdZViewItem

I bought a pair of the 12 gram cages. Shipped, they were slightly more expensive than what those Performance ones would be after CA sales tax... ($2.32 more to be exact) but 30 grams less, and they don't have a Forte logo on them.

They hold a bottle REALLY tight, and look pretty hot on a bike too...
