PET/CT results are in, and I have . . .

. . . a cold. Yes, a million-dollar machine and a multi-thousand dollar exam, and I have "moderate mucoperiosteal thickening of the right maxillary sinus, which was not previously present. There is a left maxillary mucous retention cyst which is stable. . . . Findings include bilateral maxillary sinusitis, progressive on the right and associated with a stable mucous retention cyst on the left."

Now, I didn't have this scan because of a cold, but to check whether my colon cancer is back. I'm 18 months past chemo, and all the scan finds is snot. Not a bad result.

This goes alone with a blood test from a few weeks ago. I did about 15 miles before heading to the lab, and the next day when I see the doctor he tells me I am dehydrated. So I get a multi-thousand dollar test to tell me I have a cold, and a two hundred dollar blood test to tell me I'm thirsty. Who sez American health care isn't the best in the world?

A big CONGRATS on the cancer free scan! I'll be hoping for a bunch of those, myself.

Actually, when measured by things like infant mortality we don't even make the top 25. On the other hand, on average we pay about twice as much for health care as anybody else in the world. I'm beginning to see why.

Congrats on the all clear for the cancer. Sucks about the cold, but my whole family is toting one right now too. This too shall pass, just like a bad case of gas
