Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

CONSPIRACY! Koffee threads disappear.

So who's the Houdini in here that made the Koffee threads disappear? What are you afraid of? This is a public forum. Aren't we allowed to speak our minds, and asks the questions that we need answered?

There's really no such thing as freedom of speech anymore, in case anyone hasn't noticed.

Sure there is. You can write a speech saying anything you want. You just can't freely use my paper, my stage or my bandwidth to distribute it. You have to get your own or get somebody who believes in what you have to say to give it to you. Like the government.

Freedom of speech does not apply in private enterprises. Like forums.
Or at least that is what the man told me.

The threads have been staying open to allow comment but when they degenerate into an attack on a former member who put a lot of time and effort into this community, there is good reason to remove them.

Character assanination of someone that many here still respect and value goes against what this forum is all about and isn't wise use of forum resources.

Yeah, I liked Koffee, and seeing all these ankle-biting threads has actually upset me more than Landis. She might've had "bad days" or whatever but she was also one of the few mods who were willing to go "where angels fear to tread." I think everyone knows the forums I'm talking about.

I did not agree with every opinion she had and even got a warning or two from her, but I thought she added a great deal to these forums and does not deserve all this negative attention, especially when she was one of the most dilligent about doing her job as a mod. Sad day, for me.

+1 - we should all let it go. Koffee really wanted the forums to be a respectful place for people who were totally geeked about cycling. I'm sorry to see her go and hope she decides to come back. Beyond that, I don't think it serves anything to debate the point.

Geez, I went to Portland for a few days and apparently I missed something big. Did Koffee leave the forums?

I wouldn't waste too much more time on this. It's odd what the internet has done to people. 25 years ago, i presume...i wasn't around...people wouldn't just assume they had to right to come and stand on your front yard and yell what they wanted just because it's a "free country". Yet somehow it is the assumption of many on the internet, specifically on the message boards, that just because they have the ability to sign up and log in that that freedom of speech applies to the message board.

FYI people, your freedom of speech is what allows you on this message board. Your government has given you the right to come here and post. The person who runs it has given you the right to come here and post. The difference between the two is that there is no law that states that the person running this message board has to do so.

Give it to you? Come on Rad, how about some RealPolitik:

Yeah, uh, I was out of town for the weekend and find all this "no Koffee" stuff.

At the risk of re-hashing, why did she leave? She seemed pretty cool to me.

Whisper something that is thoughtful, insightful or important, and others will be shouting it out before long. On the other hand, start screaming idiotic tirades and you'll be left alone with only your echo for company. Intellectual Darwinism or something like that.

Joe took away her moderator status; and she decided to leave the forums completely after that.

Thanks. It sounds as if there were multiple threads debating the good, the bad, and the ugly about Koffee. I for one thought that it was cool that she gave her time as a moderator but she didn't do herself any favors with her power trips.

In the end, this is a great board and I'm glad that Joe has made it available to us. Vive le Bike Forums!

I'm not privvy to the insider information, but I believe Koffee lost her Mod status because she nuked the entire Aussie Thread because she didn't like a couple of regular posters there.

It's not a freedom-of-speech issue, it's a discrimination issue, which does have legal ramifications and more importantly, moral ramifications which I for one am happy that Joe had the nuggets to deal with professionally.

I don't think Koffee should've taken her bat and ball and gone home over it. She's welcome here just like everyone else and I personally would be happy to see her posting here again.

That's exactly right. See, there's always "the good guys" and "the bad guys", but there's always one guy behind the curtain, pulling the levers.

Wrong, she got nailed with synthetic testosterone in her urine.

Oh wait, that was the other subject that won't die...
